LETTER OF SUPPORT
FOR THE LATE DR. BENIGNO “IGGY” AGBAYANI, Jr

We, the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Orthopedic Association (POA), express our
unwavering support for the appeal for review of the case of the late Dr. Benigno A. Agbayani,
Jr, by his friends and family. Dr Agbayani was an experienced and dedicated orthopedic
surgeon who was incarcerated for an apparent common complication associated with a surgical
procedure. Unfortunately, he suffered a major heart attack and passed on while in prison.

We strongly support the request for clarifications regarding the legal issues related to his
incarceration. We firmly believe that this intervention is necessary to address the growing
concerns among the medical practitioners who fear a similar fate in the future.

We believe that Dr. Agbayani's case raises important questions about the complexities,
challenges, and risks faced by medical professionals, particularly surgeons who perform critical
procedures every day. Learning from this incident can help prevent similar situations, ensuring
the safety of both patients and medical professionals.

In honor of Dr. Iggy Agbayani's memory, we implore the relevant authorities to hear and act on
this appeal the soonest possible time to provide the necessary closure to his family, friends, and
colleagues. We remain confident of the wisdom and integrity of the legal system in the country.

We at the POA, stand united in the pursuit of truth and justice, not only for the sake of the late
Dr Agbayani, but for the welfare and protection of all medical professionals in the country.
