Preface

This Test Bank, accompanying Child Development: A Thematic Approach, Sixth Edition, by Danuta
Bukatko and Marvin W. Daehler, contains approximately 2,400 multiple-choice questions—about 150
for each chapter of the text. For this edition, questions have been broken down into two types:
conceptual questions ask the student to formulate an answer based on his or her understanding of a
concept and applied questions introduce a real-life scenario and ask the student to apply his or her
acquired knowledge to make a choice. The sequence of questions follows the order in which the
information appears in the text. The format of the items follows basic principles of test construction,
and the level of difficulty is purposely varied. In addition to the multiple-choice questions, there are
true/false, short answer, and essay questions located at the end of each chapter.
Each multiple-choice and true/false item in the Test Bank has a notation like the following:
TYPE: A = application; C = concept
ANS: B
DIF: E = easy; M = moderate; D = difficult
REF: page reference
OBJ: learning objective
WWW: key questions for the Web (15 per chapter)
The short answer and essay questions have the following notations:
ANS: Possible responses included
OBJ: learning objective
The information provided in the key can be used in several ways. By systematically choosing items
according to the learning objectives, an instructor can ensure that a test assesses the breadth of students’
understanding of the course material. By varying the proportion of items that are conceptual, factual, or
applied, the instructor can manipulate the extent to which a test assesses the depth of students’
understanding of the material.
