From time to time T have warned our mem- bers to preserve their copies of this magazine, and our other publications, because they have become more and more valuable as exch year pases. Already this summer the eaely arrival of Convention delegates and members brings us a flood of demands for back copies of this maga ine, and of The Resicrucian Digest in order that complete sts of each year'tisucs might be made into. separate. volumes. Our supply of these apps is alot eahasned for etery mond and every year of the past, and premiums are being offered by those who’ want an occasional single copy. Do not allow yourself to create this predicament through falling to file away and preserve, carefully each copy. Sometime in the future the Forum may be discontinued through lak of tine to had the Forum sessions bee, or through my personal incapacity to continue this ‘work. In such a case every single issue, and every Year's st of ‘asues will be a priceless thing in the hands of future members. If all copies of the Forum that have been issued to date and mailed to the members of our, Forum family were bound together, they would constitute the most complete encyclopedia of Resicrucian principles and ideals ever printed and published. Future members will make all sorts of sacrifices to be able to see and read the very issues that. you ‘now lay aside and perhaps fail to preserve, This is unfair to yourslf and to future members who will gladly buy the publications from you when ‘you no longer want them. ‘The Forum family is rapidly increasing and is accomplishing a great amount of good in the better understanding of our principles and our ‘objects and purposes, and in the solving of #0 many personal problems, May chi copy anda the others be of real help to you from month to ‘month. Fraterally, 1H, Spencer Lewis, Imperator Rosicrucianism and Material Gain This afternoon we have an interesting subject for discussion submitted by Frater Boden of England. He receives our Forum magazine and says that the subject he wishes us to. discuss fone that was brought to his attention by the English members, and he wonders whether T would like to talk about it over here in the Wester World ‘The discussion arose over the question as to whether the study of Rosicrucianiam and the practice of ts principles brought any material fain into the ives of its members. In the final Ana of te dco in England wat pointed out that practically every one of the members of the Order there admittedly had i proved in financial sanding and in worldly matters. ‘Then the question arose as to why the Rosicrucians in their literature didnot empha: size this point. Prater Boden immediately came to the protection of the dignity of the Order by stating’ that he knew from his contact with European ‘Rosicrucians that it would be undig nifed and improper for the Order to claim that nce you became its initiate, student, and fal- Tower, you could improve your finances and your worldly affairs Now the truth of the matter is that here in the Western World where our attude toward things of this Kind is slightly different, we have heen a little more bold in referring to the fact that Rosicrucianism will improve your material affairs and the physical part of life as well as the mental and spiritual In other words, we hhave purposely avoided the impression that the AMOR was concerned wholly with mental and Spiritual things, and therefore probably a re- Tigious cult. We have said over and over that the duty of 2 real Rosicrucian was to set his howe in ore and make is ie afte more happy, prosperous, and contented. T hope that our European members will not look upon my remarks as 2 reflection upon the rea culture and refinement of the average American citizen, I is simply that they have been trained to this fom of adrsing, adsl for gre This sort tic propaganda was popular when I was a boy, and had its beginning when iy father was a boy, and we probably have frown so weed to it that we are Unaware of its ‘unreliability. However, to meet the competition of the allur- ing advertisements and forms of propaganda which the serker reads and analyzes before he starts choosing the path he wants to tread, we have added into our propaganda the references to the inevitable improvements in the financial, socal, physical affairs of man, a8 well as in bis spiritual and cultural affaira. That phase of the Roscrucian work in the past contributed very largely to the development of the medical and therapeutic siences a they are known today land many of the leaders and greatest workers in the development of the medical art and healing art were devoted Rosicrucians TThope that my present words spoken in the Forum here today and probably published in our Forum magazine will fall into the hands of some of our members who are physicians. hope that they will lay aside their bias and prejudice and read thio matter with an open mind. Some of these physicians are reluctant to accept many of the statements contained in our lessons and often in their biased attitude with which we are very tolerant, they write to us and say they enjoy al ‘of our work except that which pertains to heal ing, and that they wish we would eliminate this from our work because the principles we teach are not provable and are not compatible or con ‘Snent with medical and healing practices which they have learned and with ‘which they have ‘worked. But we always call their attention to this fact: The average qualified and licensed physician today is using methods and doing things fn which he would have had no faith if they had been offered to him twenty-five or fifty years ago. While ‘sme of these may have been intended to be tribal symbols or symbols of tribal distinction, and some of them eventually became such, neatly all of the symbols of the American Tndians were ‘originally symbols of mystical and religious ideals and principles, "We have called attention before tothe fact that although the American Indian tribes greatly dif- fered in their anguage and dialect, and although cach tribe had many distinctive habits and customs and a greatly varied list of holidays, holy days, ge 12 THE ROSICRUCIAN FORUM celebration day, ceremonial periods, ete, a care fal compilation of all of them shows that there ‘were certain days throughout the year when all ff the tribes had almost identical ceremonies, ‘This astonishing fact led investigators, of cours, to reach a conclusion that at one time the origin ‘ofall these American Indian tribes was in one dis tinct class of ancient people. They had held fast 1 certain ceremonial days with definite ceremonial rituals and practices while modifying some and creating new ones to meet the history, back round, and environment of their separate loca- Hons. Tn analyzing these ceremonial periods, ritual tc, it wat found that those which were identical famong all of the tribes and which fell on the ‘ome oceasion each part of the year, were also identical with certain Jewish ceremonial days And ceremonies.
