UK home fed meat production, trade and supplies – (data for Quarter 2 202

The quarterly meat supplies dataset includes information on beef and veal, sheep, pig and
poultry meat production, trade and domestic supplies. This dataset is only updated in
March, June, September and December.

This dataset has been revised on the 22 September 2023 - Please see the information
sheet for further details.

Information and notes
Background
This dataset contains statistics on the availability (supply) of UK "home-fed" meat on a quarterly basis. It is intended
supplementary dataset to the monthly UK "home-killed" meat production statistics produced at the cattle, sheep, and
slaughter statistical notice and the poultry slaughter and poultry meat statistical notice (see useful links); but also co
additional information on meat trade. The annual figures from this dataset are also available in the "Agriculture in the
publication at Agriculture in the UK publication (see useful links).
Definitions
Home-fed meat production: Meat produced from livestock/poultry reared in the UK.
Home-killed meat production: Meat produced from livestock/poultry slaughtered in UK abbatoirs.
The two sets of statistics described above link together using the following formula:
(Home-fed meat production) = (Home-killed meat production) - (Estimated meat equivalent from live imports for slau
(Estimated meat equivalent from animals exported for slaughter).
Production and supply statistics: Exclude meat offals and trade in preserved or manufactured meat products (eg. ca
meat).

Data sources
The volume of home-killed meat production is calculated using data from monthly slaughterhouse surveys (run by D
the devolved administrations). Production volumes are calculated as the number of livestock/birds slaughtered in the

Meat trade statistics come from HM Revenue and Customs, but are validated and adjusted if necessary prior to pub
