One theory is that about 800 years ago Mongolian soldiers, who didn't have (2 )_____________ or cookers,
put meat under their saddles while they rode their horses to make it soft. In the evening they ate the meat
without cooking it.
Another story is that immigrants to America from the city of Hamburg in Germany brought their 'Hamburg

HIDDEN TALENTS
1. _________
They ofen didn 't learn to read and write until they were older. Their parents often thaught they were
stupid and their friends laughed at them. Some of them hated their schooldays and decided to drap out of
school as soon as possible. In short, they had unhappy schooldays.
2 _________
Some of the world's greatest composers, writers and inventors had an unpleasant time at school like this.
Later, when th ey became successful, nobody was moresurprised than their old classmates .Were these
people stupid? No, of course not! Some people believe that they had something in common - dyslexia.
3. _________
Dyslexia is a learning disabilitywhich means that people have problems with reading and remembering
written wards. It is ofen difficult for them to memorise things. Studies show that people with dyslexia use a
different part of their brain to read and remember. Experts think that the cause of dyslexia is genetic:
probably somebody else inthe family also had dyslexia .Statistically, about fifteen percent of people are
dyslexic, but noteverybody who has dyslexia knows about it.
4 _________
Some people with dislexia discover they have special, hidden talents but only when they are older. A good
example is Agatha Christie , one of the mostsuccessful writers in history (twobillion books published in
forty-fourlanguages l). At school she had problems with writing and often got bad marks for essays. Her
parents were disappointed and wanted Agatha ta leave schaol early. She only started writing because her
older sister said Agatha couldn 't do it! And even when she was already a famous crime writer, she
sometimes felt embarrassed because she still couldn't spell.
5 _________
There are many more examples of people like Agatha Christie: Albert Einstein , Leonardo da Vinci, Ludwig
van Beethoven , Pablo Picasso, John Lennon , Thomas Edison ... important and creative people who had
problems with reading and writing when they were young. Of course, that doesn 't mean that everybody
with dyslexia is a genius , but it shows that sometimes people can be a lot mare intelligent than they seem
