allows you access to the exam venue (this document contains your ID Number, Examination
Number and personal details). You will receive the NSC Admission Letter/Personalised Timetable
from the Department of Basic Education (DBE) before the examination date. Once received,
immediately upload on our website: www.cao.ac.za by clicking on the icon “Upload my
Documents”. This document is used by us to match and verify the information you provided on
your application against your final results when received from the Department of Basic
Education (DBE).

You can have a maximum of six active programme choices. It is your responsibility to ensure that your
programme choice name/s and codes match and are correct. Programme choices are processed using
the programme code.

If you have applied for a programme which has been or may be discontinued during the application
cycle, you have the option of only changing this programme at no cost by going online to
www.cao.ac.za and clicking on the icon “Change of Mind”. If you make any other additions and/or
changes, you will be required to pay the COM administration fee of R140. This fee can be paid online or
through EasyPay and your changes will become effective once the administration fee is received.

The CAO only accepts ONE APPLICATION for a specific entry year and intake. If more than one
application is received, the first fully processed application with payment will be available to the
institutions and any subsequent applications will not be considered. You may, however, make changes

Other recommended subjects (not compulsory): Technology, History, Art, Technical Drawing,
Geography, Physics.In addition to the requirements above, the top 300 applicants will be required
to undergo a test for selection purposes. The weighted results from this test, in addition to their
Trials mathematics marks for those students yet to complete their NSC or the mathematics results
achieved in their senior certificate if already awarded will be used to determine offers of places in
the programme based on a ranking of these combined results.Preference will be given to
applicants placing Architecture at DUT as their 1st choice. This will also apply to the ranking of
offers. The NSC subjects Mathematical Literacy and Technical Mathematics will NOT be accepted
as a substitute for the NSC subject Mathematics.

1.1. Until 31 March, let us know in writing the changes you would like to make to your contact
details. Email changeofcontactcao@cao.ac.za with your CAO number or ID number in the
subject line and provide the information you wish for us to update. Please note that this change
is free. We do not accept telephonic changes. Ensure all changes to contact details are sent to
the CAO. If you do not inform the CAO of any changes to contact details, we will not be able to
communicate with you once a selection decision is made.
1.2. From 01 April, all changes must be done on the website. Go to www.cao.ac.za, click on the
"Update My Details" icon and follow the prompts onscreen.

2. Your programme choices

2.1. If, for whatever reason, you want to change your programme choices or change the ranking of
your existing programme choices you must go to www.cao.ac.za, click on the “Change of Mind”
(COM) icon and follow the instructions and complete the process. Once payment is received
your latest choices will be available to the institutions.

2.2. Your new programme choices must include any previous programme choices that you wish to
retain PLUS your "new" programmes. Any programmes not included in your latest list of
programmes will be withdrawn as per your COM submission.
