Bible distribution is a key priority

in Ukraine, where the demand for
Bibles is at an all-time high.

help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said,
‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” —Acts 20:35

n John 18:37, Jesus explained why He came to earth:
“For this purpose I was born and for this purpose
I have come into the world—to bear witness to the
truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”
As we celebrate His nativity, we ought to remember the
purpose of Christmas to where our faith illuminates—to
bear witness to The Truth that is Christ. Over the years,
we hold on to the mission that has fuelled the Bible
Society’s journey for years—to bring God’s Word to the
people of nations near and far. This festive season, the
Bible Society rekindles the birth of this mission within
our hearts as we stand in unwavering solidarity with our
sister Bible Societies in Ukraine and Sri Lanka to bring
the light of Scripture and support to disadvantaged
communities in their lands.
We are blessed to have personally interacted with the
General Secretaries of the Bible Societies of Ukraine and
Sri Lanka as they shared the impact of our prayers and
support during such challenging times.
Comforting Ukraine with God’s Truth
Ukraine, scarred by violent conflict that persists even
after two years, still endures the relentless onslaught
of missile strikes and ceaseless battles. This war that

gave birth to the greatest humanitarian crisis of this generation
continues to impact the people of Ukraine with constant
instability and suffering, leaving them trapped in trauma and
fear.
Despite certain conditions that made their missional work
challenging on field since the start of the war, the need
for Bibles remains as high as ever before. Rev Oleksandr
Babiychuk, General Secretary of Ukrainian Bible Society, shares:
People desperately need the Bible to soothe
their pain and to calm their spirits. When war
rages on, nothing can encourage
people more than the Word of
God. Nearly nine million people
in Ukraine are currently internally
displaced. It is truly impressive
to see their real hunger for the
Bible.”
Encouraging the people and helping them maintain their
spiritual condition is the priority. Ukrainian Bible Society pays
special attention to the internally displaced, those who stay on
occupied territories, children and young people who require
extra help in understanding the Bible, and helping the military
preserve the valuing of human life despite the circumstances.

that has left many families and individuals vulnerable.
“Through our Bible Mission work, we see people start
understanding the values in life, which unites and calms
them. The new generation is also starting to see a new
hope and vision for their future. Our dream is to have every
Christian, family and church in Ukraine reading and using
the Bible in Ukrainian translation,” Rev Oleksandr adds.

humanitarian aid, bringing them
comfort and hope in times of peril.
Yet, we continue to ask for your enduring
prayers and support as the Ukrainian
Bible Society relies on them to fulfil their
mission to help restore their people.
Healing Sri Lanka with God’s Truth
Sri Lanka, engulfed by the economic crisis that started
in 2019, had millions of people facing acute shortages of
food and fuel to medical supplies that spiralled into an
ever-worsening humanitarian emergency. Today, nearly
2.7 million people remain vulnerable, grappling with the
aftermath of a seven-decade economic crisis.
Recovering from a crisis of this scale is a great challenge.
The people are suffering—many are losing their sources
of income, malnutrition is a huge concern, and education
levels are low. To tackle these issues, the Ceylon Bible
Society (CBS) has implemented various programmes.
Wounds of Trauma programme helps children, youth
and adults overcome their traumas caused by the crisis.
A literacy programme for marginalised children and
youth teaches them literacy skills to help them read
the Bible easily and grow up with Biblical values. CBS
also reaches out to neglected communities such as the
blind and deaf, providing audio Bible recordings for the
blind in their native languages and Sign Language Bible
video recordings for the hearing impaired to help them
understand God’s Word.
This Christmas, CBS organises a Christmas celebration
for the children to demonstrate the love of Christ. Here,
the children enjoy a meal, and receive essential items
along with a special gift. Through this, we hope for them
to have a deeper appreciation of the joyful occasion of
the birth of Christ.

REBUILDING TURKEY & SYRIA

IN CHRIST’S LOVE
With your earnest support, and with
a permit from the Commissioner of
Charities (COC) for fundraising for
Turkey and Syria, the Bible Society was
able to help the homeless and comfort
the bereaved by providing life-saving
aid, alongside Scriptures, in hope of
giving tangible encouragement to the
afflicted amidst the tragedy caused by
the deadly earthquake.
Donations of nearly SGD205,000 and
SGD110,000 were given to World
Evangelical Alliance and Bible Society
in Turkey respectively, distributing
humanitarian aid and Scripture to the
vulnerable in Syria and assisting in
the building of homes for almost 40

of Antioch, Turkey.

people came together to read the Bible aloud.

Truth of Life
“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,
and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’” —John 8:31-32

T
he heart of Christmas lies in the Biblical message
it carries, that there is one truth that everyone
should believe in, one that Jesus himself testified
to. Just as Christ was the foremost witness to this truth,
the Bible Society understands the gravity and weight of
bearing witness to the truth. Preserved in the Bible, his
life’s works and teachings inspire us to ensure that the
Word of God touches every nation, leading them towards
this ultimate truth.
In Singapore, Bible engagement and advocacy are two
of the core pillars in the life cycle of the Bible Mission.
Over the years, we have organised a wide range of
impactful programmes led by the Bible Society’s various
ministries which have served to engage people with the
truth that the Word of God brings. DECLARE, ETHOS
Institute talks, D6 Family Conference, Colours of the
Bible (COB) and the Bible and Chinese Culture Festival
(BCCF) are some of the many flagship annual events
that the Society was able to hold in full scale this year.
From 25 to 28 May, DECLARE 2023 was held at the Bible
House, while pre-recorded readings by readers from different
nations were put up online. This declaration served as a
global celebration of God’s Word, uniting believers from
about 50 nations and 30 languages, as nearly 500 people
came together to read the Bible aloud, weaving words, song
and prayer. Over the span of 72 hours, the entire Bible from
the book of Genesis to Revelation was proclaimed. Together,
the Church aligned to raise a joyous sound—a revelation of
Christ’s truth, righteousness and love to bless all nations in
restoration to His perfect purpose.
Alex, a participant in DECLARE 2023, shared, “It’s
empowering to be involved in this worldwide
movement, where you get to read the Bible with
different nations. It’s nice that the Bible Society
utilises the media in the best way it could to give
glory to God and reach out to different nations to
come together as one in reading His Word.”

On 28 and 29 July, following this year’s
theme of All In: Heart, Soul, Strength,
D6 Family Conference 2023 (English
Track) held at Wesley Methodist Church,
discussed pressing topics on how we can
gracefully navigate through generational
discipleship in our churches and homes
in this modern time. Echoing the same
theme, D6 Family Conference 2023
(Chinese Track) took place from 4 to 5
August at Singapore Life Church.
Ron Hunter, this year's keynote speaker,
and CEO of D6 Family Ministry, shared:
“We got to experience the incredible
chemistry and wonderful conversations
that happened in the hallways, in addition
to hearing the great speakers who were
sharing from their hearts on the different
angles of family ministry—whether it is
parenting, grandparenting, or as a lead
pastor. We are in a post-pandemic world
where we most need this.”
Allan and Jenny, a couple of attendees
since 2016 from Paya Lebar Methodist
Church, affirmed: “We keep coming
back because we find it very

Conference on 23 September with this
year’s topic on Theology of Mission in the
Post-pandemic Era. Supported by eight
partnering seminaries, the conference
explored Biblical and theological
perspectives on God’s mission in the
pandemic world. Discussions also delved
into ecclesial responses and the digital
transformation of mission post-pandemic.
Celebrating their tenth and seventh
anniversary respectively, Colours of
the Bible (COB) and Bible and Chinese
Culture Festival (BCCF) held a combined
art exhibition from 22-28 November.
Winning artworks for COB, inspired by
God’s Love for Children in the Bible, were
exhibited. On the other hand, BCCF
showcased artistic Biblical calligraphy and
paintings from various artists depicting
God’s truth through their art.
The Embassy of Israel in Singapore has
been the co-organiser of the COB Art
Competition and Exhibition over the
years. Hila Rose Fridman, Deputy Chief of
Mission of the embassy, said: “I was very
impressed with how creative the artists
and the children behind the art pieces
were. I’ve learnt that for many of them, art
is a way of expressing themselves. So, this

To cap the year, ETHOS Annual Lecture 2023: The
Culture of Death held on 17 November tackled the
secular norm where a “culture of death” seems to be
burgeoning. Keynote speaker His Eminence Cardinal
William SC Goh, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic
Archdiocese of Singapore, explored the “culture of life”
as a theological concept and how we can promote the
“Gospel of life” that sets us free from a world that tends
to popularise threats to human life.
We hope that through the Biblical engagements that we
do annually, God’s Word of truth (John 17:17) guides
and provides you with the clarity and certainty you need
in the new year ahead. We pray that you continue to
support us through your time, giving and volunteerism,
so that engagements such as these persist in being
bearers of His truth as His Word reaches more people and

USHERING
A DECADE OF
The Sower Institute for Biblical Discipleship (SIBD),
MISSIONS
one of the flagship ministries of the Bible Society, was
actively involved in one of the most significant national
Christian events this year—GoForth 2023. Under the
theme of Missions in the New Norm: Unite to Accomplish
the Mandate, the year-long conference inspired
participants to pursue a life of mission-mindedness and
encouraged participants to reach out to their spheres of
influence through eight different tracks with a missional
emphasis, to fulfil the Great Commission.
During the opening ceremony on 18 February—where
Rev Dr Elijah Brown, General Secretary/CEO of Baptist
World Alliance, was the speaker—the eight tracks were
formally introduced, setting the movement for more than
30 events and collectively seeing about 4,000 participants
joining the events throughout the year where each track
provided an avenue for the attendees to identify
their missional interest.

在新加坡，圣经触践与倡导是圣经宣教的两大
核心支柱。多年来，在圣经公会各部门的领导下，我
们举办了一系列深具影响力的项目，让人们认识上帝
话语中的真理。今年公会全面举办了多项旗舰年度
活动，包括宣告圣经、思潮讲座、D6家庭事工大会、
圣经色彩和圣经与中华文化艺术节等。
5月25日到28日，2023年宣告圣经活动在
圣经大厦举行，期间也在网上播放不同国家代表
预录的读经视频。这是一个全球性的庆典，聚集了
来自约50个国家，近500名信徒，以30种不同语言
一起朗读经文、歌颂赞美和祈祷。
在72小时内，参与者把整本圣经从《创世记》
一直宣读至《启示录》。众教会与我们齐心协力，
在一片喜乐声中彰显基督的真理、公义和爱，让万国
恢复到祂完美的旨意。

漫谈马礼逊的
翻译及其影响
第 一 个 足 踏 古 老 中 华 帝 国 的 英 国 传 教 士 马 礼 一、《神天圣书》书名页大字标出，译文“俱依
逊于1782年1月5日，在英格兰最北部诺桑伯兰郡 本言译出”，意思即《旧约》、《新约》都是直接据希
（Northumberland）的摩庇斯（Morpeth）乡下 伯来、希腊原文译出。其实他是以钦定英王译本为依
出生。1801年，他跟随纽卡斯尔长老会牧师学习拉 据，只是偶尔参考希腊文本。

它，引发与清廷官员一次又一次的“笔”战，最终演变
成“枪”战——鸦片战争，以及它白纸黑字出现在《南
京条约》后，导致大清天朝体制崩溃等结果。

家庭教养的出路

基督徒的父母与长辈如何成为三股合成的爱绳
齐心建立以基督为中心的家庭生活、教养下一代形成
坚固的基督教世界观，全家一起在爱中成长，并在主
里建造、珍爱与守护家庭！家长和长辈们可以通过坚
定的属灵操练、健康的生活节奏，来装备自己更好地
引导和影响我们的孩子，从而构建以基督为中心的家
庭。
一、我们要聚焦于属灵的操练，以确保日常生活
中反映神圣的习惯和品格。上帝为我们设立了恩典的
途径，如祷告、阅读圣经、参与圣餐、参加团契等，
这些都是上帝应许祂与我们同在的管道，让我们可以
亲近祂，领受祂赐下的恩典。恩典的源头就是上帝自
己，所以我们要常常操练，就像枝子靠葡萄树才能够
吸取营养结出好果子，我们要通过这些管道让上帝的
恩典临到我们的生命。因此，我们不应因为繁忙而轻
视，甚至放弃这些管道。我们坚守属灵操练才能够得
到从上帝而来的力量，给予孩子耐心的陪伴和智慧的
言辞。
在现代社会中，我们需要学会独处、寻求安静、
守安息日。生命中的安静和独处时间，类似于文章中
的逗号和句号，是必要的停顿和休息，帮助我们更好
地认识自身的盲点和内心需求。我们腾出时间来与上
帝独处，先清除脑海中的杂念，才能在默观中向上帝
祷告，这样我们的属灵敏感度也会增加。守住安息日
让我们获得所渴望的力量-“但仰望耶和华的人必重
新得力。他们必像鹰一样展翅高飞，他们奔跑也不困
倦，他们行走也不疲乏。” （以赛亚书 40:31）
子看见父母尽所能过着丰盛的生命，他们也会期盼从
上帝那里得到生命中的一切美好。
三、传承信仰需要父母高度重视家庭，将其视
为上帝特别赋予我们的神圣托付。我们应该帮助孩
子了解基督徒正确的价值观，培养他们在主里成长，
找到并持守上帝对他们生命的独特呼召和引领。父
母有必要审视自己对孩子的言传身教，确保对他们的
期待和愿望符合圣经教导和基督教世界观。
美国神学家罗伯特·穆赫兰(Robert Mulholland)
将灵性塑造定义为：上帝之灵恩典的持续工作，使人
效仿基督，更新世界。属灵操练的重点在于帮助我们
不离开上帝的恩典，让这恩典在我们生命里动工，激
发我们对圣洁的渴慕、不断更新生命、更像基督。在
理解圣经的真理之外，更重要的是通过属灵的操练不
断地将其付诸行动，从而更新我们的生命和内心。
当家长在上帝的恩典中得到更新时，他们就能
够在多个方面培育孩子。这包括建立家规，以确保孩
子有一个可依靠的秩序，有意识地规划家庭交流和祷
告的时间，将品格和道德价值置于重要位置，关注孩
子身心灵的健康，鼓励他们在大自然中敬畏上帝美
好的创造，以及与孩子一起体验宣教的经历等等。

二、家长应该关注自己身心灵的健康，培养健康
的生活方式。从一开始，上帝创造这个世界的时候，
就为我们确立了生活的节奏：六日工作，第七日安
息。这需要我们调整心态，改变思维方式，有意识地

Truth and Freedom
One of the freedoms that Western democratic
societies cherish and are determined to defend is
the freedom of speech or expression. Article 19
of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
articulates the right to the freedom of expression
as thus:
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and
expression; this right includes freedom to hold
opinions without interference and to seek, receive and
impart information and ideas through any media and
regardless of frontiers.
The right to the freedom to hold a view and to
express it is without question important if society
were to remain open and if a discursive form of
democracy were to be allowed to mature and
flourish.
The freedom of expression is so important that
some have argued that the society that inordinately
suppresses it would be greatly impoverished. This
is because it is in an environment where the free
discussion of views is encouraged that the truth is
most likely to emerge, recognised and embraced.
The idea of truth implies the existence of ‘untruth’.
And although in an open society, people must be
allowed to articulate viewpoints that are simply not
true, these viewpoints should always be contested
and corrected. Truth, therefore, should guide the
way in which we think and speak.
This emphasis on truth is at the heart of the
Christian understanding of the freedom of
expression, for without truth there can be no real
freedom (John 8:31-32). This point is especially
pressing in our postmodern climate, where the idea
of objective truth has been eclipsed and where what
is true has become radically relativised.
The Bible clearly emphasises that speech should be
truthful. The Apostle Paul exhorts the Christians in
Ephesus to ‘put off falsehood and speak truthfully to
your neighbour’ (Ephesians 4:25).
Commenting on the Eighth Commandment in the
Decalogue (‘You shall not bear false witness against your
neighbour’), the Catechism of the Catholic Church states:
The eighth commandment forbids misrepresenting the
truth in our relations with others. This moral prescription
flows from the vocation of the holy people to bear
witness to their God who is the truth and wills the truth.
Offenses against the truth express by word or deed a
refusal to commit oneself to moral uprightness: they are
fundamental infidelities to God and, in this sense, they
undermine the foundations of the covenant.
The discussion on the freedom of expression must,
therefore, give equal attention to the question of duties
and responsibilities as it does to liberties. Speech must
always be responsible if it is to protect the freedoms of
the speaker and the community to which he belongs.
Speech has the responsibility towards the truth. It must
be truthful. In fact, it is when speech is truthful that it
liberates the speaker and his hearers from the distortions
of falsehood and the unfreedom that results.

We bring thanksgiving to God for the meaningful
commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the
Bible Mission in Singapore. Through God’s unwavering
faithfulness, we were able to extend blessings to the
nations that we’ve partnered with over the years.
As we enter the Decade of Missions from 2023 to 2033,
we continue to pray that God will empower The Bible
Society of Singapore to be a source of blessing for
communities, both locally and overseas.

We pray for the healing, restoration, and the
rebuilding of shattered lives in Ukraine. May
God's comforting embrace provide His people
with strength, hope, and enduring peace as they
navigate the burdens of conflict. Grant them the
resilience to mend what's broken, the unity to
stand together, and may Ukraine flourish once
more, thriving in the face of adversity.
Amidst the intense conflict between Israel and Hamas
due to its terrorist attack, we pray for the safety
and protection of all affected. Our heartfelt prayers
extend to the innocent lives, including Christians in
Israel and Palestine, as they seek shelter and safety.
We implore God to bring peace, safeguard those
in need of essentials, and guide leaders towards
decisions that promote reconciliation and end the
suffering of their citizens in place of war.

The Bible Mission has always been the
driving force of The Bible Society of
Singapore and the motivation behind
the organisation’s efforts. Though we
honour this year as the bicentennial of
the Bible Mission in Singapore since its
local mission in 1823, the Bible Society’s
official registration in 1837 memorialises
this year as its 186th anniversary as
well. The distribution of 1,000 Chinese
New Testaments to Chinese settlers
here marked the start of our journey.
Over the last two centuries, we’ve been
pioneers of truth for God’s Word, serving
alongside sister Bible Societies and
evangelical communities to advance
God’s cause. Our nation, Singapore,
emerged as the regional hub for Bible
translation and printing, etching its
name in history.
With this, July marked a significant
chapter as the Bible Society
commemorated its bicentennial
celebration through a Bible Mission
Banquet on 7 July 2023, held at Hilton
Singapore Orchard. The momentous
occasion stood as a testament to God’s
faithfulness and grace over the Bible
Mission through the past two centuries.
After a three-year hiatus due to the
pandemic, the resumption of the yearly
banquet was truly something to be
grateful for.
We were privileged to have Minister
Desmond Lee, Minister for National
Development & Minister-in-charge of
Social Services Integration, regional
and global mission leaders from about
20 countries, donors, supporters,
volunteers, and dear friends of the
Bible Mission grace the occasion with
their presence and shared mission.
The event was made possible with the
steadfast support of Dr Stephen Riady,
Executive Chairman and Group CEO of
OUE Limited, who has given consistently
and generously towards various Bible
Mission initiatives. This year, the
support of Far East Organization and
Mrs Dorothy Chan extended to covering
the hotel accommodations for overseas
missionaries who came to grace the
event. Mrs Chan also hosted a luncheon
for 40 overseas missionaries at Fullerton
Bay Hotel during their stay here.
The evening resonated with celebration,
thanksgiving, and mission sharing from
various mission leaders from the region.
To be able to share in the camaraderie
forged by Christians from all walks of life
speaks to the far-reaching impact of the
Bible Mission that God has so graciously
blessed.
The Mission Banquet served to intently
showcase the collective labour in the
mission field by the Bible Societies in the
region, as well as to highlight the plights
of communities affected by issues such
as natural calamities, war, and political
or economic uncertainty, to name a
few. Through a compilation of video
narratives, a number of Bible Societies
across the region shared their various
initiatives in the mission field to address
the need for Scripture and the pressing

Chinese Christianity Alliance
(WCCA) was held in conjunction
with the Bible Mission Banquet.
WCCA is the first language-
based global missional platform
under the World Evangelical
Alliance. WCCA is headquartered in
Singapore and the Bible Society is
privileged to be one of its founding
members. This brought us back
to when Robert Morrison and
Stamford Raffles distributed the first
Chinese New Testament to Chinese
settlers here 200 years ago.

新加坡圣经公会一直以圣经宣教为使命，推动事
工的发展。1823年，向本地的华人移民分发1,000
本《中文新约圣经》标志着宣教旅程的开始。今
年，公会除了欢庆圣经宣教200周年，也纪念公会于
1837年正式注册，成立186周年。在过去的200年
里，我们一直是为了上帝的话语真理而开创先河的，
与姐妹圣经公会和福音团体一起推动开展上帝的事

Radiant Truth OF CHRISTMAS

Amidst the twinkling lights and
festive cheer, Christmas stands
as an excellent reminder of God's
truth made manifest through
the presence of Jesus. Much like
how Jesus' birth brought hope,
peace, and love to this world,
*SowCare—being a key partner
of AGWO, ADEO, TAP, LY(U)N, and
EHT—extends His love and truth
towards the various marginalised
groups by helping the poor, needy
and vulnerable this Christmas:
• Migrant workers through
*AGWO (see pg 28-29)
• Migrant domestic workers
through *ADEO (see pg 30)
• Underprivileged children
through *TAP
• Elderly through *LY(U)N
• Homeless through *EHT
Through your generous giving to
SowCare, we were able to help the
elderly cope with the rising cost
of living in Singapore. Monetary
support and milk powder were given a nation-wide project offering holistic
to nearly 50 needy seniors in Ang Mo programmes to uplift less privileged

by Mrs Dorothy Chan from Far East
Organization and our community

The heart and truth of Christmas
beats in the humility of Jesus' birth—a
child in a lowly manger. Similarly, TAP
resonates with God's care, reaching
the underprivileged children, and
exhibiting the truth that God's love
embraces and uplifts all children.
TAP and W.H.O.L.E. CHILD initiative
by Life Centre Community Services
worked together to organise a carnival
for children aged three to 12 from
under-resourced families in Canberra,
featuring various game booths with fun
activities. With the aim to reach about
1,000 children from low-income families
annually, TAP hopes to develop into
break away from the poverty cycle.
Carolyn, a volunteer from New Life
Christian Church, felt touched:
“We are blessed to be a
blessing. We love because He
first loved us. By being kind
to others, we are showing
them the love of Christ. To
love like Christ is to be kind
to others. Simple acts of
kindness put a smile on faces.”
Just as Christmas demonstrates the
humble arrival of Jesus as a child to
bring light to the world, it also inspires
SowCare to foster unity among children
during the various festive seasons
such as New Year's Eve and Ramadan
where SowCare and TAP gave out
about 260 care packs with the help
of our partners and volunteers.

As the joyous season of Christmas draws near, we are
reminded of the profound message that lies at the heart
of this sacred celebration. Just as the world witnessed
the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ and His life’s works
and teachings subsequently, *SowCare collaborates with
*AGWO to shine as a living embodiment of Christ’s truth
and love in action.
In unity with The Sowers Ministry in Novena Church,
Asretec, and Fusion Safety, safety training schools in
Singapore, AGWO exemplified the truth of God’s
faithfulness during Labour Day. The interactive and
engaging game booths, generous gifts and giveaways
and a heartfelt appreciation dinner, not only showed our
care towards them but also created an avenue for them to
integrate within their guest-worker community.

Fostering unity, inclusivity and the spirit of Christmas,
weekly cricket activities are organised for the benefit
of the guest workers’ mental and physical health. The
six-month cricket initiative which culminates in a friendly
tournament, offers solace to the guest workers who may
be grappling with mental burdens as they experience the
love and compassion from the community. As we embrace
this initiative, we recognise its resonance with the true
message of Christmas—one of healing, restoration, and
the boundless potential of human connection.

Interfaith initiatives such as the Harmony Tour and Iftar,
where they engage and better understand Singapore’s
diverse communities, also bring together people of diverse
beliefs, echoing the very essence of Christ's message of
love and unity.
This December, a nationwide tribute to guest
workers through the International Migrants Month
celebration—a month-long campaign with the theme
#TogetherInSingapore—saw the coming together of
SowCare, AGWO, public and private sectors, churches and
many others to promote equal stature, express hospitality
and appreciation, and have a time of fellowship with our
guest-worker brothers (AGWO) and migrant domestic
sisters (ADEO). #TogetherInSingapore symbolises our unity
as a nation, showcasing the strong bond forged between
Singaporeans and migrants, especially during challenging
times. Through these initiatives, the unity-in-diversity spirit
of Christmas is truly manifested, illuminating the truth and
shared values that bind us all.

EXTENDING THE TRUTH OF
God’s Love and Compassion
TO DOMESTIC WORKERS THIS CHRISTMAS
The joy of Christmas reminds us that the true essence of
this season lies in the love we share with one another. As
Christians, how can we reflect God’s love especially this
season? Just as Christ humbled Himself to reach out to
the lowly and helpless, are we willing to do the same for
those in need?
Encouraged by John 4:19, *SowCare partners closely
with *ADEO to uplift, serve and express our appreciation
to our migrant domestic workers (MDWs) through
holistic care. Our ADEO Monthly Gatherings in the City,
deployed across the year, saw several churches and
partners coming together to organise fun and enriching
activities for our MDWs. One of the highlights this year
is the first-ever movie screening with a unique indoor
theatre experience that nurtures a more inclusive and
supportive community for our sisters.
Supinah, a regular attendee at ADEO gatherings shared
her testimony: “The event was wonderful and I had
so much fun. ADEO improves and uplifts my well-
being as a migrant domestic worker […]. I would like
to thank you for taking good care of me and all of my
fellow domestic workers.”
Jesus' teaching in Mark 12:31 inspired us to not only
have compassion, but to also show fair treatment and
respect to the MDWs. We were able to do this through a
partnership forged with the church, *KKF, during their
Outstanding Employers Award 2023. The President of
*HIA joined and acknowledged the employers and our
MDWs in their efforts to foster positive relationships
among them.
Weekly engagements conducted by partnering churches
also help to strengthen their bonds, embodying the

Biblical values of love and unity. The close partnership
between the Church and the MDWs has paved the
way to bringing them closer to God, allowing them to
encounter God as their true Saviour.
One MDW shared:
“ I am very thankful because I learned what
a real relationship with God is like from the
fellowship. We must not merely be namesake
Christians, but our lives must be transformed.”
Another MDW, who was inspired to share the Good
News, added:
“ I learned that I must grow spiritually
and build loving relationships with everyone.
I encourage the sisters to invite others to know
about Christ.”
As God’s children, we are called to live out the truth
of God's love and compassion in tangible ways.
Volunteering your time, skills, or blessing us with
your giving would make a lasting impact and not
only provide essential support, but also a sense of
belonging, dignity, and hope to our MDWs who work
far from home. Join us in this mission of being salt and
light to others.
