This is an individual assignment, not group assignment, so keep in mind that you are
supposed to submit your own and self-made assignment even if you discuss the
questions with your class fellows. All similar assignments (even with some meaningless
modifications) will be awarded zero marks and no excuse will be accepted. This is your

Question

Four co-planar forces of magnitudes KN, 20N, 30N and 10N act at a fixed- point O and are
in equilibrium. The angles that the forces make with +ve x- axis are 60, x, 210 and 330
degrees respectively. Angle x lies in the second quadrant. Find the values of x and K.

Solution:-
To find the values of x and K, we can use the conditions for equilibrium. The sum
of the forces in the x-direction and y-direction must be zero.

Let's resolve the forces into their x and y components:

1. Force of magnitude K at 60 degrees:

K_{x} = K * cos(60 deg)

K_{y} = K * sin(60 deg)

2. Force of magnitude 20N at angle x: 20 x = 20cos(x) 20 y = 20sin(x)

3. Force of magnitude 30N at 210 degrees:

30 x = 30cos(210 deg)

30 y = 30sin(210 deg)

4. Force of magnitude 100 at 330 degrees:

10 x = 10cos(330 deg)

10 y = 10sin(330 deg)

In equilibrium, the sum of the forces in the x- direction and y-direction is zero:

K x +20 x +30 x +10 x = 0

K y +20 y +30 y +10 y = 0

Now, use these equations to find the values of x and K. Note that x lies in the second
quadrant, so 180 < x < 270 You can solve these equations to find the values..
