What are sensory nerves?

► The five senses of the human body include hearing, sight, touch, taste, and
smell. These senses allow a person to perceive sensory information from their
environment. For example, the sensory nerves allows a person to see the face
of a loved one, smell flowers, and taste delicious food. To understand sensory
nerves, we must first understand the central and peripheral nervous systems.
► The central nervous system consists of the spinal cord and brain, while the
peripheral nervous system consists of nerves that branch off the central
nervous system and extend throughout the entire human body. Nerves in the
peripheral nervous system send nerve impulses to and from the central
nervous system. Sensory nerves are the nerves responsible for sending
messages to the brain or the spinal cord from the sense organs.
► They are also called as afferent nerves. They also carry signals to our brain to
help us to touch, taste, smell and see.
What are Sensory Nerves Function?

► The primary function of sensory nerves is to allow a person to utilize their

five senses.
► The sensory system is responsible for detecting and processing sensory
information from the environment and converting it into electrical signals
that can be interpreted by the brain.
► The sensory system has two parts: the general sense and the special sense.
Where are the sensory nerves located?

► Sensory nerves originate from the central nervous system (i.e., brain and
spinal cord) and extend throughout the entire body in an extensive network of
nerves.
► There are several sensory nerve types: exteroceptors, mechanoreceptors,
Pacinian corpuscles, Meissner's corpuscles, Ruffini nerve endings, and Krause's
end organs. The following sections will describe these sensory nerves in more
detail, including their function in nerve sensation.
What are the three main functions of the sensory
neuron?

► Part of the brain that controls posture and balance of the body.
► Part of the neuron that acquires information.
► Part of the neuron through which the information travels as an electric
impulses.
what is sensory neuron?

► sensory neuron, nerve cell that carries information about changes in external
and internal environments to the central nervous system (CNS). Such neurons
are part of the peripheral nervous system, which lies outside the brain and
spinal cord.
► Sensory neurons are the nerve cells that are activated by sensory input from
the environment - for example, when you touch a hot surface with your
fingertips, the sensory neurons will be the ones firing and sending off signals
to the rest of the nervous system about the information they have received.
What is sensory neuron? And why are
they important?
► Neurons that carry sensory impulse from sensory organs to the central nervous
system are known as sensory neurons.
► Sensory neurons are activated by physical and chemical stimuli, eliciting
sensations such as temperature, touch, pain, and itch from an evolutionary
perspective, sensing danger is essential for organismal survival.

sense organs.

They are also called as afferent nerves. They also

carry signals to our brain to help us to touch, taste,
