MAIN IDEA
The story is a personal narrative or memoir of someone reflecting on their love for books and
how that love eventually led them to become a writer. The author expresses a deep passion for
books from a young age, describing the sensory experiences of reading, the joy of discovering
new books in the library, and the sense of wonder and possibility that each closed book held.
The author also recalls how they used to spend their summers immersed in books, even trying
out books that didn't seem appealing at first, and often finding hidden treasures within them.
The narrative highlights the author's realization that writers are real people who can write
down their thoughts and share them with the world, thanks to a teacher who took them to a
book signing event with a well-known writer, John Ciardi. This experience seems to have
planted the seed of the author's aspiration to become a writer themselves.

In summary, the story is about the author's deep and abiding love for books, their early
experiences with literature, their initial attempts at writing, and the moment of realization that
writers are real people who can make a profound impact on the world through their words. It's
a reflection on the journey from a passionate reader to a budding writer.
TEAM REFLECTION
The lecture provided a poignant and relatable narrative about the author's journey
from an ardent reader to a burgeoning writer. It resonated with me on a personal
level, as I, too, share a deep affection for books and the unique experiences they
offer. The author's vivid descriptions of the sensory aspects of reading, from the
feel of a book in one's hands to the smell of old paper, invoked a sense of nostalgia
and reminded me of the countless hours I've spent immersed in the world of
literature.
The story also beautifully captured the magic of discovering the unexpected within
the pages of a book. It emphasized the idea that sometimes, the most unassuming
or overlooked texts can contain profound wisdom and beauty.
Overall, the lecture was a heartfelt reflection on the profound impact that books
can have on an individual's life. It highlighted the transformative journey from
being a book lover to an aspiring writer and the power of real-world encounters
with established authors in shaping one's aspirations.
