Learning Aims C1 Advanced Preparation

(Certificate in Advanced English)

This is an exam training course. It provides comprehensive practice in the four components
of the exam: Reading and Use of English, Listening, Speaking and Writing. It also gives
students strategies and advice on how to approach and successfully complete the individual
tasks. The strategies apply equally to the pen and paper based test and the computer base
test. The materials used in the course will be Pearson C1 Advanced Formula Exam Trainer.

Reading and Use of English


• Familiarisation with the format of the exam and knowledge tested in each part
• Tips, advice, and extensive practice in the individual parts of the exam
• Limited language work such as prefixes and suffixes, word families and grammatical
structures tested in Part 4
• Completion of past papers under exam conditions.

Listening
• Familiarisation with the format of the exam and knowledge tested in each part
• Tips, advice, and extensive practice in the individual parts of the exam
• Completion of past papers under exam conditions

Speaking
• Familiarisation with the format of the exam and knowledge tested in each part
• Tips, advice, and extensive practice in the individual parts of the exam
• Limited language work including functional phrases for use during the exam
• Mock speaking test with feedback on performance from the teacher

Writing
• Familiarisation with the format of the exam and the different written texts that could
be required
• Tips, advice, and extensive practice in the various text types
• Limited language work, including functional phrases to be included in the different
written texts
• Completion of past papers under exam conditions with feedback from the teacher
