Computers Unlimited sells microcomputers to universities and colleges on the East Coast and ships them from
three distribution warehouses. The firm is able to supply numbers of microcomputers to the universities by the
beginning of the academic year as presented in the first table. Four universities have ordered microcomputers
that must be delivered and installed by the beginning of the academic year is presented in the second table. The
shipping and installation costs per microcomputer from each distributor to each university are given in the
third table.

Determine the minimum total shipping and installation cost and the number of microcomputers to be
transported to each of the four universities from the three distribution warehouses.

2. A large manufacturing company is closing three of its existing plants and intends to transfer some of its more
skilled employees to three plants that will remain open. The number of employees available for transfer from
each closing plant is shown in the first table. The number of employees can be accommodated at the three
plants remaining open as presented in the second table. Each transferred employee will increase product
output per day at each plant, as shown in the third table.

The company wants to transfer employees to ensure the maximum increase in product output. Solve this
problem by obtaining your initial iteration using VAM.
