moral, intellectual, and spiritual development. It was
centered on holistic, value-based learning. He promotes
a decentralized, community-focused method that
adapts instruction to local cultural situations.
"Nai Talim" fosters self-reliance and social
responsibility by fusing ethical principles with practical
and intellectual abilities. Gandhi aims to empower
people for both individual and community well-being
by emphasizing experiential knowledge and moral
lessons. His goal goes beyond boundaries to foster
healthy societies with well-rounded persons rooted in
truth, nonviolence, and compassion. This way of
thinking is an aspect of a transformative strategy that
creates responsible citizens with a strong sense of civic
duty and ethical awareness in a society that is
multicultural.

GANDHI’S EDUCATIONAL PHILOSHPHY
Gandhi held the view that the best way to bring about
both individual and societal change was by education.
Gandhi supported a comprehensive approach to
education that included moral, spiritual, and
intellectual components. He placed a strong emphasis
on character development and saw education as a
means of fostering values like compassion, honesty,
and nonviolence. According to his idea of "Nai Talim,"
education was tailored to regional conditions in order
to promote social responsibility and independence.
Gandhi believed that education should enable people to
make significant contributions to society. In order to
produce citizens who could live moral lives and
contribute significantly to the fulfillment of his vision of
a just and peaceful society, he placed a significant
emphasis on ethical ideals and practical skills.

In ahatma Gandhi staunchly believed that the prevalent view

of education solely for economic gain obscured its true
purpose. He emphasized that genuine education should
primarily focus on character development rather than
monetary success. Gandhi criticized the narrow perspective
that valued education solely for financial gain, neglecting the
essential aspect of nurturing moral integrity. He viewed
education as a means to instill humanity, emphasizing the
importance of good habits over mere literacy. For Gandhi,

education served as training for character-building, a form of
service to others, and a foundation for a liberated and
cultured life, fostering the development of body, mind, and
spirit. True education, he asserted, leads to self-knowledge
and the strengthening of character, forming the basis for a
new world order rooted in truth, tolerance, and global
harmony.

THE IDEA OF “NAI TALEEM”

NAI TALEEM REFERS TO BASIC EDUCTION”

Gandhi's ground-breaking theory of education calls for

an inclusive and revolutionary method of instruction. It
is based on the idea that education should be
comprehensive and aims to balance the development of
the mind with the acquisition of practical skills and
moral principles. "Nai Talim" emphasizes the mutually
beneficial relationship between education and
character development and promotes hands-on
learning and physical labor as essential elements. This
educational concept promotes a decentralized and
community-centric paradigm and is intricately
entwined with the cultural and socioeconomic milieu.
Gandhi's vision transcends traditional bounds, seeking
to endow people with a deep feeling of social
responsibility and self-reliance. Through the inclusion
of moral teachings in the curriculum, "Nai Talim" aims
to develop well-rounded people who can make
significant contributions to both individual and societal
well-being. This idea emphasizes how transforming
force is and how important shaping indivisuals
morally uptight, socially conscious for a harmonious
society is.

Anil Sadgopal explores Gandhi's multidimensional fight

against hegemony and his unwavering dedication to
moral values in this essay. Gandhi's idea of Nai Taleem
(New Education) as a revolutionary force for social
change was the result of his rejection of capitalism,
imperialist, and caste-based rule. Gandhi's criticism of
the British educational system was motivated by his
support for swadeshi (self-reliance) and fundamental
ideals as well as his innate knowledge of imperialistic
aims. Gandhiji sought to give people more economic
and political power by putting a strong emphasis on
vocational training, teaching in one's mother tongue,
and combining work and study. His larger vision of an
autonomous nation with deep cultural roots was
aligned with the establishment of basic education,
which aimed to build skills and promote self-
sustainability.

education is not merely literacy but a transformative
force that nurtures individuals capable of contributing
positively to society. Through his emphasis on service,
liberation, and self-knowledge, Gandhi envisions an
education system that goes beyond academic
achievements, fostering a harmonious and enlightened
world. His timeless ideals continue to inspire
