Stable and radiogenic isotopes have vast implications in our day to day life.

Where
stable isotopes are useful for paleoclimate studies in trees, speleothem, and giant
clam, radiogenic isotopes are used to determine the absolute age of a sample and
to trace the origin of a component. Having keen interest in the field of
geochemistry, I would like to know more in details about the use of Stable
isotopes, radiogenic isotopes within different biogenic and mineralogical
elements of Earth that can be used to study the evolution of Earth, exploration of
precious minerals and many other geological aspects.
I would like to have a detailed study on the techniques that are used to measure
δ18O and δ2H, process of stable isotope dating, identify trace elements and
quantify them. I would also like to learn how the interpretation of these values
have relations to major geological processes, will be an interesting fact for me to
learn.
As I am in the first year of my post graduate course, I have limited knowledge on
this topic. I also do not have any prior experience in the field of research. As we
do not have any sophisticated instrument to carry out such projects in our
department this internship shall be extremely helpful for me in gaining some
training and experience. Studying the course subjects does not give much insight
into what it is really like to do original research on any subject and taking part in a
research internship shall not only kindle an interest in research but also help me
think in a way geologist should.
