Question Two: In the beginning of Chapter 1, you are told about a poster. This poster
seemed to follow the main character. What does the poster read? How is the poster
described?
“BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU” said the poster with an enormous face staring with eyes following
you wherever direction you’re standing.

Question Three: What is a telescreen? Provide as many details as you can.


Telescreen are devices that are meant to be televisions to entertain and also
were available in evenings and after daylight passes, but they’re also security cameras used to spy on
citizens to record their actions.

April 4th 1984. He was panicking and wrote everything out of sheer panic and he did not know what he wrote.

Question Thirteen: What is the first date in the main character’s diary? What incident caused the
main character to begin his diary on this particular date? (HINT: you’ll need to read a bit
further in the chapter to answer this question)
The thing was that he opened his diary, and he would have been sentenced to death or 25 years in forced
labor camp if detected.

The main character hates womans especially young womans because there was a particular girl which gave
him the impression of being more dangerous than most.

O’Brien is a fictional character who appears in the novel 1984 as the major antagonist.

Question Sixteen: Who is Emmanuel Goldstein?


Emmanuel Goldstein is the enemy of those who were previously important members of the Party but then
became involved in attack actions and were sentenced to death.

Question Seventeen: What is the name of the “vast shadowy army… underground network of
conspirators dedicated to the overthrow of the state?” What text did this group follow?
The Brotherhood, this group follow a text against the government.

Question Eighteen: What did the main character find so horrible about the Two-Minutes Hate?
Discuss his emotions. Quote the text if possible.
The horrible thing about the Two Minutes Hate was not that one was obliged to act a part, but, on the
contrary, that it was impossible to avoid joining in.

Question Nineteen: While the main character sat thinking about the incident, which led him to
begin his diary, he realized that he had been writing. What was it he discovered filling up half
the page? How did that make him feel?
He realizes that no one is sure of anything and whatever the party wants to be changed gets changed and feels
the government is doing a crime and his mind cleared and felt terrified at the end.
