Introduction

The Energy, Infrastructure & Transportation (EIT) sectors are taking centre stage in the
developing and the developed countries making them the powerhouse economies in their
continents. These sectors would be the major drivers of economy and employment generation
in the future.
UPES is amongst the best known University in India for Aviation Management. Conceived in
2003, it is Asia's first core sector focused University. It has undisputed leadership in Logistics
& Supply Chain, Oil & Gas, Power and Aviation Programs. Centre for Continuing Education
(CCE) at the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun, India since 2007, offers
itself as a centre of excellence for accessing quality blended education through "Distance
Learning Mode". The Centre welcomes all those working professionals and fresher who are
eager to pursue further education leading to appropriate career path and growth.

2.2 Relevance of the program with HEI’s Mission and Goals

MBA in Business Analytics focuses primarily on analytics which is an amalgamation of arts, sciences,
and technologies that has become one of the most prominent applications of technology in the world
This specialisation helps to attain the knowledge required to drive key business decisions. It will also
help students develop the necessary skills to carry out analytical procedures and support an organisation
by figuring out ways to improve and optimise existing business processes with ease.

3. Nature of Prospective Target Group of Learners :

MBA in Business Analytics program for working professionals to enable them to become an
exceptional Business Analytics professional. It covers the concepts of machine learning used as data
mining techniques and touches upon the differences between data science and data mining. Students
will be able to use the different data mining techniques such as association, clustering, and use
different data.

Students/Working Professionals who have completed an undergraduate degree and are


interested in furthering their education may do so by enrolling in online-learning master’s
degree program. This program is offered completely through web-based classroom
applications, and enrolees can complete all required coursework in order to earn the degree.

Target group of learners:

 Aspiring executive and working professionals focusing to improve their analytical skills and
capabilities for effective decision making.
 People with zeal to learn analytics and its business applications will also find this program as
a step-up in enhancing their skills.

This program will lead to rewarding careers across the areas of Analytics, Marketing, Finance,
and other management areas, both in India and Abroad. A learner can do this program both as
a Fresher and as well as a working professional along with your current job. The online mode
provides greater flexibility to the learner with various insights into the management practices
With traditional businesses like manufacturing, banking, trading, there is a huge prospect for
professionals with management skills and professional degrees.

5. Instructional Design :

5.1 Curriculum Design:


It's a 2 year program approved by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB) of UGC, delivered in
Online education mode where you can continue your job while pursuing the program. The 2
years are divided into 4 semesters; the 1st and 2nd semesters focuses on general management
papers while other two on Aviation industry specialization with a dissertation / industry project
in last semester.
The program is delivered in a blended learning format that includes self-learning supported by
our customized Learning Management Platform, instructor led live session and real life
experience through dissertation.

5.3 Duration of Programme:

The duration of the programme is 2 years. The program is divided into 4 semesters each of 6
months duration.

5.4 Faculty & Support Staff:

The faculty members who take care of Live Sessions and Offline discussions are comprised of:
 Two full time-dedicated faculty members one at Associate and one at Assistant
professor level.
 450+ faculty members who are full time resource taking sessions at our campus in
Dehradun.
 Industry experts either currently servicing or retired at senior level with passion for
teaching.

5.5 Instructional Delivery Mechanism:

Our program requires a high level of continuous engagement from our students aptly supported
by team of Academicians, Student Relationship Managers and the Operations Staff. In fact, it
is the vast diversity of experiences brought by our student cohort that makes the program
unique.
 Self-Learning: We provide access to our Learning Management System (LMS) that
includes resources from e-books, assignments, Audio-Video links and web-links. The
LMS is accessible via smart phones and tabs, and is also available in our website
 Faculty Led Live Classes : Our expert faculty members take session on each paper that
is delivered through live webinar sessions of 90 minutes duration mostly on weekends.
These sessions are joined by students from India and Abroad. Key concepts, case studies
and real life examples are discussed.
 Assignment and Project: To gain real life cases and working in a corporate on an
assignment for a min 8-10weeks. This inculcates hands on learning
 Academic Assistance: Students also get chance to clarify their doubts / academic
clarifications. If by any chance you miss these live classes, don’t worry, the recorded
sessions are uploaded in the LMS.
 Program Coordinator Support: Each learner would have access to academic team.
He/she may write e-mail or call them to seek clarification. We respond within 2 working
days on email queries. We encourage students to use this facility.
 Learning Management System {(LMS)(Blackboard-BB)} : Discussions are held
both Synchronous and Asynchronous by conducting Discussion Forums through
Blackboard mode.

6. Procedure for Admissions, Curriculum Transaction and
Evaluation:

6.1 Procedure for Admissions:

6.1.1 How to Apply:

The student can apply through 3 modes:

6.2 Curriculum Transaction:

6.2.1 Program Structure:

The program is divided into semesters each of 6 months. In every semester, the students are
exposed to a mix of core, domain and domain tailored subjects. The students in their final
semester are also required to submit a Dissertation / Project, guided by a University approved
Guide from the Industry of their own domain of expertise.

6.2.2 Academic Flow:

All enrolled students would need to follow a structured Academic and Evaluation sequence.

 Self-Learning: We provide access to our Learning Management System (LMS) that
includes resources from e-books, assignments, Audio-Video links and web-links. The
LMS is accessible via smart phones and tabs, and is also available in our website
 Faculty Led Live Classes : Our expert faculty members take session on each paper that
is delivered through live webinar sessions of 90 minutes duration mostly on weekends.
As we have subjects of 3 and 4 credits in the 4 semesters, the live webinar sessions shall
be conducted 9 Hours and 12 Hours synchronously as per the credit hours.
 Assignment and Project: to gain real life cases and working in a corporate on an
assignment for a min 8-10 weeks. This inculcates hands on learning.
 Term End Examinations: The University conducts all its examinations managed by
the examination or evaluation Unit of the Higher Educational Institution conducted in
the examination centre approved by the Higher Educational Institution. The final
Grading happens as a score with the applicable weightage.

6.3 Evaluation Policy:

The university follows a relative grading system which includes two types of assessments
continuous or formative assessment in the form of assignments (Assignment 1, Assignment 2)
and summative assessment in the form of term end examination. The final Grading happens as
a score with the applicable weightage.

1) Assignments:

The assignments are normally uploaded within the first week of the launch of any Semester.
The assignments need to be accessed and submitted within the due date via the Learning
Management System only. The access details for the Learning Management system is sent to
the students post admission. The 2 Assignments are Auto-Evaluated by LMS.

2) Term End Examinations:

The University conducts all its examinations managed by the examination or evaluation Unit
of the Higher Educational Institution conducted in the examination centre approved by the
Higher Educational Institution. Further for the convenience of planning for the students, the
dates are informed by much in advance. The date-sheet of the all Term End examinations are
uploaded on this Website about a month before any examination cycle.

7. Requirement of the laboratory support and Library Resources:

The UPES Knowledge Resource Centre (UPES-KRC), with its wide range of collection of
knowledge resources and innovative information services, fills an essential requisite in the
intellectual pursuits for our students, faculty and the surrounding community. UPES-KRC, a
hybrid Centre with the state-of-the-art technological applications holds knowledge resources
predominantly related to engineering, science & technology, management, law and allied

subjects. The entire UPES-KRC collection of books, print journals/magazines along with its
wide range of e-collection including e-journals, e-books, online databases, CD-ROM collection
etc., are accessible through the Institute’s network. Our mission is to facilitate convenient and
user friendly access to current, global and relevant information by identifying, acquiring,
organizing and retrieving information in various formats (print & non print) to serve the
information needs of the academic fraternity of UPES to meet their teaching, research,
consulting, training and learning requirements.
The UPES-KRC building at Bidholi Campus has a sprawling space of about 22465 sq. ft, COLS
Library of about 5000 sq. ft. and COMES Kandholi Library of about 6500 sq. ft, with central
air-conditioning and designated areas for different sections of the UPES-KRC, providing the
right ambiance for reading and reflection. The broad objectives of UPES-KRC are:

 To build a state-of-the-art knowledge resources centre for management and allied


subjects
 To acquire need-based resources to meet information requirements of the academic
community of the Institute; and,
 To provide proactive and innovative reference services to the user community.
 To provide modern tools for accessing information
 To disseminate technical knowledge
 To network with leading libraries

Due to the growing needs and preference of members, KRC focuses more on subscription to
online resources than printed documents. In the last few years, e-resources of the UPES-KRC
increased considerably in terms of number and subject coverage. In addition to circulation and
acquisition services, the Knowledge Resource Centre Learning Centre provides reference,
photocopying services to members, current awareness service, and remote access to databases.
Documents which are not available in the KRC, are sourced from DELNET through a inter-
library loan arrangement.

LIBRARY RESOURCE

The Library has a very rich collection of relevant books, journals and databases. At present
library collection strength is 129587 (Titles 20354) books and other documents, 153 Print
Journals, 1109 e-books, 16924+ e-journals, 3500+ Theses and Dissertations, and 26 e-databases
on Engineering, Management and Law namely, Royal Society of Chemistry, ASME Journals,
ASCE Journals, Institute of Physics, IEEE ASPP, ACM Digital Library, Harvard Business
Publishing, Taylor & Francis JSTOR, EBSCOHOST - Business Source Premier, ProwessIQ,
J-Gate Plus, OnePetro, AIR Databases (Supreme Court/High Court/Criminal law Journal)
(1950 to 2012), West Law India, HeinOnline, Taxman Database, EBSCO - Engineering
Collection, and SCC Online. UPES library is also the member of National Digital Library of
India hosted by MHRD. The library services at UPES are provided to students, staff, research
scholars and faculty members for upgradation of their knowledge and supporting the research
and teaching / learning activities. Keeping in view the fast technological changes, the collection

of the library is regularly updated by way of adding text books, reference books, reports,
proceedings, encyclopedias, Journals and databases, etc. The library is kept open on all working
days, except the University holidays from Monday to Saturday. The Library routine services
have been fully automated using an Open Source Integrated library management software
'KOHA' that supports all in- house operations of the Library and Online Public Access
Catalogue (KOHA-WEBOPAC) for students. To assist the students, Research Scholars and
faculty members in locating literature as well as information in their areas of research, general
reference, current awareness a single window library portal entitled "GyanKosh" has been
introduced.

LIBRARY COLLECTION

With the excellent blend of print and electronic resources in the form of books, journals,
databases, technical reports, and standards, the library collection is one of the finest in the
region particularly in the field of engineering, management and Legal studies. This rich and
valuable collection built over the period of last few years has some of the valuable reference
materials and several important journals. The total print collection of the library exceeds more
than 1.4 lakhs volumes.

The library offers traditional services such as Reference Service, Referral Service, User
Guidance Service, Cataloguing and Classification Service, Circulation Service including Inter
Library Loan and Document Delivery Service, Weekly display of recent additions of
periodicals and books, Bibliographic Service, Photocopying Service, and

Specialized services such as digital repository services for UPES publications & theses, Web
based Online Public Access Catalog ( Web OPAC). IP authenticated access subscribed e-
journals, e-books and databases, remote access to e-resources. Information literary services
such as Library orientations, Subscribed resource demo and training sessions, and Trial access
to e-journals and databases etc. The library has been using KOHA, a Opensource Web-based
Integrated Library Management software for its housekeeping operations. The library Online
Catalogue database has more than 1.5 lakh records of books (Bibliographic Information). Using
OPAC, users can search the Library Online Catalogue by Author, Title, Subject, and keywords.
Also, the users can know the latest additions of periodicals and books and the status of a
document (whether on shelf or on issue). OPAC is accessible on the Web and reservation and
renewal of a book can be done Online.

9. Quality assurance mechanism and expected programme


outcomes:

 The academic unit of CCE is subjected to internal audit every year.


 The course content of all courses is subjected to review and updating every year by
Academic Review Committee.
 The feedback from students is communicated to faculty so as to identify the areas for
improvement.
 Surveys are conducted for assessing student satisfaction.
