Abstract: In order to develop a small-scale semantically organized lexical database
of Modern Greek, we take advantage of the conceptual categories in the Antilexicon
[Vostantzoglou, 1962], which is the only dictionary of Modern Greek adopting a
concept-based organization. Antilexicon belongs to the lexicographic tradition hallmarked by Rogets thesaurus. Furthermore, we evaluate Antilexicon as a model
concept-based Lexicon for Modern Greek and explain that although its material and
organization provide a good basic stock for this purpose, some work is required to
upgrade both the linguistic material and the meta-linguistic information to today
requirements. We use the concepts of kinesis (motion) and ektelesis (execution,
carrying out) as a case study and have developed a database where all explicitly
encoded morphosyntactic facts and semantic relations among the words and the
multiword expressions in the Antilexicon are formalized.
