Review

Surely, we recall days, when we would sit watching the TV with eagerness, waiting for the macho
man with the Old Spice products to appear and delight our comic perceptions with ridiculous jokes. And,
in my opinion, those were true displays of advertisements capable of entertaining the viewers so that
they would rewatch them.

I strongly believe that were there any other actor the commercials would not have had as great
of an impact as they did. Therefore, Crews’ acting skills combined with the genius scripts provided a
unique experience through memorable aspects. Let us take the “Get shaved in the head” video with
Terry Chews as an example.

Analyzing his physical features, we can conclude that he represents a perfect image for the
masculinity. Thus, in the chosen publicity clip Chews is posing and flexing his muscles, showing his Greek
God-like upper body captivating the watcher’s attention while subconsciously tying his perfect figure
with their merchandise. Although he doesn’t have a deep voice, his alert tone keeps the viewer enticed
giving the feeling that the actor is talking personally to them, as seen in the ad, he is talking with the
strand of hair, without giving each other a lot of time between the replies.

Another splendid part of the secret recipe for the commercial’s success is the well-crafted and
out of the blue transitions which give it a comical character. And it was Chews who managed to harness
their potential at its fullest. The quick succession of scenes kept the watcher involved and made them
question themselves as to what was going to happen next. In the video the frames quickly change
between Terry and his hair lookalike and then after he cuts it, changes to a violent shaking.

Ultimately, how do ads influence us ? Obviously, they play a role in our desire to buy certain
items, However, more importantly they benefit the viewer by offering a pleasant waiting time between
programs.
