‘THE HONEST
WOODCUTTER’
THE HONEST WOODCUTTER

A very good morning to the respected judges, loyal timekeepers,

Mr/Mrs Emcee, Teachers and friends.

I’m Nor Farah Alliya Binti Ahmad, and I’m going to tell you a story

entitled The Honest Woodcutter.

Long ago, there was a poor wood cutter named Agoh Kamil. He was

very poor but he is honest. One hot day, he took his axe and went

inside the nearby forest, in search of wood. After searching for a

long time, he found one good tree near a river.

“hemm…this tree is good! I can get lots of firewood.”

So, Agoh Kamil started to work.

“Swish,swoosh,swish,swoosh...

’‘Plop…

“Oh no!”

As Agoh was cutting the woods, his axe slipped from his hands and

fell inside the nearby river. The river was very deep. So, he could

not get into the water to take his axe out. He started to cry.

“Oh…oh..what am I going to do?” “I have lost my one and only axe.

“Oh dear..oh dear…”

Suddenly, a beautiful angel came out from the river water.

“Why are you crying my dear woodcutter?” She asked.

“Oh, I have lost my axe…now I won’t be able to cut woods anymore.”

Agoh told her what has happened.

The angel went inside the water and after sometime, came out with a

silver axe in her hands and asked Agoh.

“Is this your axe?”

Agoh said, “No. This is not mine.”

Agoh did not accept the silver axe. The angel went inside the water

again. This time she came out with a GOLDEN AXE.

“Is this your axe?’ asked the angel.

Again Agoh looked at it and said “No, this is not mine”.

The angel said, “Take a look again Son, this is a very valuable golden

axe, are you sure this is not yours?”

Agoh said, “No, It’s not mine. I can’t cut trees with a golden axe. It’s

not useful for me”.

The angel smiled and finally put her hand into the water again and

took out his iron axe and asked.

“Is this your axe?”

To this, Agoh said, “Yes! This is mine! Thank you!”

Then, the Angel said. “I am happy with your honesty, Son”. So, the

angel gifted the gold and the silver axes to Agoh Kamil.

Dear friends, moral of the story is, we should always be honest.

Honesty is always rewarded.

Thank you.
