Tata Steel conducted a human rights due diligence audit of its supply chain partners and identified several issues that violate prohibitions on forced labor. The audit found that the vendor was collecting security deposits from workers for safety equipment and not reimbursing fees for medical exams. Additionally, the vendor was not issuing joining letters detailing employment terms or employment cards. Tata Steel requested the vendor take immediate actions to remedy these issues by stopping illegal deposits, paying required fees, issuing proper documentation to all workers, and educating workers on forced labor. Failure to comply would result in severe consequences from Tata Steel.
