ETHICS AND
RELIGION
Religion
is an institutionalized system of spiritual
beliefs, values, attitudes and practices.
For many, religion is viewed as a way of
life and even a path of transcendence.
Religion is an ethical norm, as important
as it is, but not an exclusive basis for
ethics. It plays an important role in our
moral values that is to highlight the
totality or wholeness of a person
Ethics Outside Religion
Anti-religious ethics promotes total
abandonment of religion while irreligious
ethics maintains an open perspective
towards religion however is neither
biased nor against it.
Ethics follow other norms and are not reliant only
on religion. One can exercise ethical values in moral
dilemmas without involving religious thought (e.g.
War on drugs; President Duterte’s take on
extrajudicial killings is definitely outside of his
religious views).
The times is continuously evolving and with it comes
along the vast changes in the ways of life, including
how people think and interact. Popular culture
tends to alter the traditional views and practices
of people.
