Roots of the Massacre

- Teritorial Disputes between Phil and Malaysia over Sabah.

- For the Phil. Presidents, The SABAH was ours.

- Pres. Marcos created a secret operation in reclaiming the Operation.

Operation Merdeka - Military operation in reclaiming the Sabah from Malaysia. August to December
1967, the young recruits underwent training in Simunul.

2. Being a Member of AFP.

The Commando Unit was named Jabidah - Moro Fighters na galing sa Sulu, Basilan at Tawi-tawi

As the training goes by in Corregidor, they discovered that they are going to kill their brothers and
sisters in Sabah. They also feel disgruntled because the 50.00 allowance has not yet started. Letters
were sent for the Preisdent to read but it was not forwarded. Supposedty these Tausug were going back
home in Manila but instead they were killed by the military forces

Massacre

- plotters led their trainees wherein they planned to kill the Jabidah unit. trainees were gundown in the
night." Jibin Arula, the survivor, said that he heard a series of shots and saw his colleagues fall. He ran
towards a mountain and rolled off the edge on to the sea. He recalled clinging to a plank of wood and
stayed afloat. By morning, fishers from nearby Cavite rescued him.( Whitman, 2002)"
Aftermath

- Set of rallies made by the muslim community in seeking justice for the jabidah massacre. It ignite the
muslim rebellion and established the Moro National Liberation Front. It also caused the unending
conflict between Muslims and Christians.
