1. What is Equator?
Ans: Equator is the midway horizontal line that divides Earth into two equal
halves - the Northern Hemisphere and the southern Hemisphere.

2. What is Prime Meridian?

III. Answer the following questions in detail.

1. How do we know that Earth is round?

Ans: There are few ways to prove that Our Planet is round in shape. For
example, when Earth is between the Sun and the moon, we can see Earth’s
shadow on the moon. The shadow is rounded.
Aeroplanes also help to prove that earth is round. An aeroplane can travel in a
straight line for a long time without falling off any edge. It can also circle the
entire planet without stopping.

2. What is a globe? Describe the types of Globe.

Ans: The globe is a fairly good model of Earth. It shows all the Continents,
Countries and water bodies of Earth. The globe also shows a network of lines,
known as Latitudes and Longitudes, and two poles of the axis.

There are different types of globes.

Terrestrial globe: Terrestrial globe shows landmasses and waterbodies. It may
also show countries, major cities and a network of Latitude and Longitude
lines.

Physical Globe: A Physical globe shows the geographic characteristics of

Earth. It may have raised topography to indicate the rising of the land surfaces
around the world.
