Space Flight

Written by
Jill Atkins
This astronaut is at the Space Port.
She is waiting to go into space.
Her space outfit is thick and strong.
It will keep her safe on her mission.

2
This astronaut puts his outfit on and
then he slips on his helmet and boots.

3
Sometimes, a number of astronauts go on a
trip. Some are men and some are women.

4
When it is time to go, the astronauts
travel to the launch pad. They get
out of the bus and wave to the
crowd. Then they mount the steps.

5
Inside the nose cone of the rocket, they
sit down and click their safety harnesses.
The harnesses strap them in tight.

6
The countdown is under
way, but the flight might
be cancelled if it is cloudy
or too windy.
The take-off must be safe.

7
Bright, hot flames burst
from the bottom of
the rocket. There is
a loud roar.
“Five, four, three,
two, one.”

8
The rocket shudders and begins to rise.
“We have lift-off! Everything is go. Our
mission is under way.”

9
The rocket zooms up and up,
higher and higher into the sky.

10
From space, planet Earth looks magnificent!

11
Now the astronauts can unclip their
harnesses.
There is no gravity in space, so they
float around inside the space-ship.
They have fun looping the loop.
Everything floats around them.

12
13
Sometimes, a space-ship travels
around the Earth in orbit.
Sometimes a space-ship docks with
a space-station. The space-ship takes
food to the astronauts living on the
space-station.

14
When it is time to return to Earth,
the crew of the space-ship fix their
harnesses and get everything ready.
They wait for re-entry and landing.

15
At last the space-ship lands back on
planet Earth.
The mission is finished and everybody
is safe. What a fantastic adventure!
