Novel´s Review

Beloved by Toni Morrison

Beloved is one of the greatest novels written by American Toni Morrison in 1987. The
book tells the story of Sethe, a black woman in a salvary life. Set in the peiod after the
American Civil War.
The story is about the struggles of enslaved African Americans and the trauma that salavery
causes. Seth or Margaret Garner is the main character who flees a Kentucky plantation with
her husband, Paul D. Then, the law catches up with the family and Margaret kills her
daughter because she does not want her to become a salave.
The plot is thrilling. All the characters are involved in social issues what makes it more
realistic and absolutely sunning. All of them are well-developed. The plot has an
unexpected twist with the death of Margaret´s daughter and with the meeting of the woman
that could be the reincarnation of her daughter. The book raises awareness about a difficult
part of history related with slavary in America.
Beloved is a highly entertaning read. I would thoroughly recommend it because it keeps
you focused from the very beginning. If you like realism, this book will not disappoint you.
