REGISTRATION:
Attendance to the school is free and will include attendance to all sessions, coffee breaks and handouts.
LOCATION:
The school will be held in Cáceres, a smal l town with about 100.000 inhabitants, located in the region
of Extremadura, in the south -west of Spain and close to the Portuguese border. The city is well -known
for its monumental area, with more than 150 palaces (one of the biggest in Europe). It holds a rich
heritage of monuments from all ages (from the Romans to the 19th century), perfectly preserved. The
monumental area of Cáceres was declared World Heritage by UNESCO:

VENUE:
The school will be held at the Complejo Cultural San Francisco , Ronda de San Francisco, s/n, E -10005
Cáceres, Spain, a former convent beautifully restored which now serves as the most important cultural
center in Cáceres, ideally located near the city’s old town. All the activities of the school will be held at
the “Sala García Matos” ( http://www.brocense.com/matos.html ).

TRAVEL INFORMATION:
By train. There are several daily trains from Madrid to Cáceres (see http://www.renfe.es for details).
Depending on the train, departure to Cáceres will be from one of the two main train stations in Madrid:
Atocha Renfe or Chamartín (both conveniently accessible by metro line 1). There is direct metro
connection from the airport to both stations. A metro map of Madrid is available online from:
http://www.metromadrid.es/acc_resources/pdfs/Plano_Metro_2007.pdf . The cost of a one-way train ticket from
Madrid to Cáceres by train is below 30 Euro (travel time is about 3.5 hours). Tickets can be purchased
online using http://www.renfe.es .
By bus. There are several daily buses from Madrid to Cáceres (see http://www.auto-res.es for details). The
bus station for getting to Cáceres from Madrid is “Estación Sur”, easily accessible by metro line 6 (stop
in “Méndez Álvaro” station). A metro map of Madrid is available online from:
http://www.metromadrid.es/acc_resources/pdfs/Plano_Metro_2007.pdf . The cost of a one-way bus ticket from
Madrid to Cáceres by bus is below 20 Euro (travel time is about 3.5 hours). The “Express” bus (just one
stop) is highly recommended since o ther buses may have many stops and be much slower . Tickets for
the “Express” bus can be purchased online using http://www.auto-res.es.
The closest airport to Cáceres is located about 14 kilometers from the city of Badajoz (85 kilometers
from Cáceres). This is a small airport which mainly operates local flights between Madrid and Badajoz.

of a taxi from the airport to the bus station in Badajoz is approximately 16 Euro. There are several daily
buses from Badajoz to Cáceres (see http://www.auto-res.es for details). The cost of a one -way bus ticket
from Badajoz to Cáceres by bus is below 7 Euro. Tickets can be purchased online using http://www.auto-
res.es. There are also several daily trains from Badajoz to Cáceres (see http://www.renfe.es ). In both cases,
travel time is approximately 1.5 hours.

Getting to Complejo San Francisco from Cáceres Old Town:
Starting from plaza de San Juan (where hotel Meliá Cáceres Hotel is located), the conference venue can
be easily accessed via Rosso de Luna, Camino Llano, Plaza de San Francisco and finally Ronda de San
Francisco (about 10 minutes walk).
Getting to Complejo San Francisco from Cáceres Downtown:
Starting from Avenida de España / Plaza de América (major avenue in downtown Cáceres), the
conference venue can be easily accessed going down Avenida Virgen de la Montaña, then Plaza
Conquistadores (most well-known as “Colón”), and then Avenida del Brocense, Avda. Millán Astrana,
and finally Ronda de San Francisco (about 10 minutes walk).
Getting to Complejo San Francisco by Car:
From Cáceres old town, drive from Plaza Mayor to the Bullfighting ring (Avenida Hernán Cortés) and
then to the statue of Hernán Cortés, where you take left to cross Avenida de España, go down Avenida
de Virgen de la Montaña, get to Plaza Conquistadores (most well -known as “Colón”), and then Avenida
del Brocense, Avda. Millán Astrana, and finally Ronda de San Francisco. Parking will be available at
the conference venue at no cost.
Getting to Complejo San Francisco by Bus :
From Cáceres downtown, bus line 7 departs from the intersection between Avenida Guadalupe with
Calle Argentina, and leaves you at Ronda de San Francisco near hospital San Pedro de Alcántara (right
next to the school venue).
