Face-to-face education vs online education

Education is one of the factors -if not the biggest factor- that influences both the
advancement and development of people, and therefore, of society.
In our current context, and after going through and continuing to go through the ravages
and consequences of a global pandemic, an alternative has emerged in terms of academic
preparation: distance education.
Much has been said about which of the two is more profitable, but the truth is that both
have advantages and negative aspects.
On the one hand, there is the typical face-to-face education. Among its advantages we find
that it allows the creation of school groups that can interact and learn from each other, it
also facilitates a solid and stable structure, and makes it possible for students to feel more
accompanied in the face of academic challenges.
Now, if we talk about disadvantages, face-to-face education also has certain flaws. One of
them, and perhaps the most notorious, is the rigidity in schedules; There is no opportunity
-as is the case with distance education- to create a flexible calendar that allows combining
studies with work and personal life. It is also limited in terms of educational formats; Many
times it is not possible to share images, videos and forums that are accessible 24 hours a
day. This factor limits learning and the good dynamics of the curriculum.
Regarding the facilities of online education, we have to: allow you to access the classes
whenever you want and according to the availability of your schedules, the training is
carried out in small groups or individually, allowing the teacher to know in depth the
strengths and weaknesses of their students to get the most out of the lessons, Online
education does not require the physical presence of the student in a classroom. As long as
you have a good internet connection, the class can take place from anywhere in the world.
In face-to-face education the student must be present in the classroom for the lesson.
Therefore you must move from one site to another and this costs time and money. In
distance education these expenses disappear and there is no need to waste resources.
As in face-to-face education, distance education has disadvantages: There are students
who without a predetermined structure find it very difficult to apply themselves to the
study. Self-discipline can be learned but there are students who possess it more naturally.
Studying online implies being committed to the task and not losing interest and the desire
to work. o It is enough to have a notebook and a pencil case. For distance training it is
important to have a computer with a webcam, headphones (optional) and above all a
good WiFi connection. Not all subjects can be taught online. There are subjects, especially
practical ones, that it is better to study and apply in person. However, both formations can
also be combined to achieve optimal results.
In conclusion, it can be stated that both courses provide the student with the necessary
tools to learn. It is up to the student himself to decide which are the best for him, the most
useful and the ones that best suit his needs.
