SEMI FINAL EXAMPLE: The balance point in a meter bridge experiment is

obtained at 30 cm from the left. If the right-hand gap contains

MODULE/WEEK- 6 resistance of 35 Ω, what is the value of the resistance in the left-hand
gap?

SLIDE-WIRE BRIDGE Solution:

Note: A meter bridge means a length of 100 cm.

The slide-wire bridge is a simplified Wheatstone bridge, in which the

balance is obtained by means of a slider which moves over a resistor
wire of manganin, constantan or similar material.

FOOD FOR THE BRAINS: The formula in slide-wire bridge is

dependent on the position of the unknown resistance. Some books
placed the unknown resistance at the right side of the bridge.

Thus, the applicable formula for the slide-wire bridge as shown is, Rx
(100-s) = R(s).
