1. Upcoming IMDS Release 13.1 (Production rollout planned

for January 26, 2022)

IMPORTANT: The IMDS Release 13.1 does not contain enhancements affecting the
IMDS Advanced Interface (IMDS-AI).

The following enhancements have been prioritized and developed based on the enhance-
ment proposals of OEMs and suppliers. Several changes have also been implemented
because of supplier feedback during review events. The production rollout of this Release is
planned for January 26, 2022.

1. Visibility of warning about recyclate exceeding the maximum range of 20%

There is a check in place to verify that the recyclate information is set within a maximum
range of 20%. This check does generate a warning. This check only works on the creator
side, if the MDS is in edit mode. With Release 13.1 this check will also be performed on
released MDSs and on the recipient side.

2. Allow multiple S2S Keys per Org-Unit

With Release 13.1 Company Administrators will be able to upload multiple S2S Keys per
Org-Unit. Instead of a single S2S Key, you will have a list of your S2S Keys, to which you
can add new S2S Keys and delete existing ones. When doing a SCIP Submission, the user
can no longer do a manual S2S Key upload for the submission but will instead get the list of
S2S Keys for the appropriate Org-Unit or root company to choose from. If there is only one
S2S Key for the Org-Unit, it will be set as default for the submission.

1
3. Exclude classification 9.x in SCIP Submissions
When doing a SCIP Submission from IMDS with an MDS containing SVHC in materials
of classification 9.x, you will be able to make a selection, regardless if these materials are
included in the submitted Dossier. In the SCIP Submission Screen and from the MDS details
you will see whether the completed submissions include or exclude the 9.x classifications.

4. Add SCIP Attributes to Component Search Results

The following fields will be added to the Component Search in IMDS:
• Latest Submission Date
• SCIP No.
• Submission No.
• Production in the EU*
• SVHC safe use instruction required*

The above fields with an asterisk will be hidden by default. You can unhide these columns
via the “View” menu just above the search result. In case you have hidden columns in the
search result screen, there will be a note informing you of this.

5. Changes to editing Application Codes and Norms

Currently you can only edit Application Codes and Norms, if you double click on the respec-
tive table in the MDS details. With Release 13.1, there will be an edit button above the re-
spective tables, with which you can edit the Application Codes or Norms. This button will help
users understand how to add and change Application Codes.

2. What’s next? Planned IMDS Release 13.2 enhancements

The IMDS Release 13.2 is planned for the second Quarter of 2022. Please bear in mind
this is preliminary information only and might be subject to change.

Allow structure mix

Materials used as coating do not represent a separate article according to REACH. But when
referencing a coating material as a component, IMDS currently shows a warning message
based on Rec001. With this change, the warning message will be hidden for certain material
classifications to allow correct the reporting of coated components.

Add warning message if the Application Code “Other application (Potentially prohib-
ited)” is selected
Some OEM companies do not accept MDSs referencing the Application Code “Other ap-
plication (Potentially prohibited)”. With this change, a warning message will be shown in the
check result in case this Application Code has been used. The warning message will inform
the user about this being a recipient specific requirement and ask them to check with their
customers whether they should resolve the warning or not.

Calculate recycling quota based on material in a material reference

Since Release 13.0 manufacturers of polymeric materials are required to enter recycling
information themselves. With this change it will be possible to automatically calculate the
recyclate quota for polymeric materials consisting of other polymeric materials, based on the
quota defined for the referenced materials and their portion in the parent material.

Change of warning on invalid Application Code

The last update of Application Codes resulted in many warning messages for existing MDSs
due to the deactivation of several Application Codes for PAH substances. To counter this, the
Application Codes have since been flagged as “hidden”. This still hides any warning mes-
sages, and prevents users from selecting these Application Codes.

2
With this change, these Application Codes will be deactivated again, therefore reactivating
the warning messages. However, the warning messages will be hidden in existing MDSs,
where the combination of substance, its portion and the material’s classification would no
longer qualify for any Application Code. In other words, warning messages will only be shown
where resolution is possible by creating a new version and updating the Application Code..

Application Code “Concentration within GADSL Limits” for substance groups

The Application Code “Concentration within GADSL Limits” is available for substances of the
four groups “Lead or its compounds”, “Cadmium or its compounds”, “Mercury or its com-
pounds” and “Chromium(VI)-salts” with a concentration of max. 0.1% or 0.01% within the
homogeneous material. With this change the portion of all substances within the homoge-
neous material belonging to each of these groups will be added together and compared to
this threshold. For example, if two lead compounds with a portion of 0.06% each exist in the
same material, the Application Code “Concentration within GADSL Limits” will no longer be
available, since the sum of both substances is > 0.1%.

3. IMDS improving Transport Security starting February 2022

The Internet creates a constantly evolving environment, not only in terms of opportunity, but
also in terms of security challenges and countermeasures.

The transport level security (TLS, a.k.a. HTTPS or “encryption”) employed between end-
user tools, such as browsers, and IMDS secures your communications with IMDS against
eavesdropping and manipulation.

In order to continually secure the customer’s communication with IMDS, transport security
must be periodically adapted to new technological developments.

IMDS therefore will cease TLS protocol versions 1.0 and 1.1 in February 2022.

This change will guarantee that even the lowest security standard selectable by any HTTPS
client connecting to IMDS will still provide a reasonable baseline security with regards to
encryption and therefore help to secure communication across the whole IMDS community.

Caution

This change will result in loss of connectivity for tools/libraries that only provide very outdated
transport security resources.

The tools affected will include old browser/OS versions and old integration environments.

Am I affected?

If you are working on an even slightly recent operating system, or young browser under 5
years, you will not be affected.

We are only removing support for really outdated clients such as IE 10 on Windows XP or
Java 1.7 on systems other than Solaris which lost public support in 2015.

If you are unsure if your environment supports the new IMDS access requirements of
February 2022, please contact your inhouse Administrators, as they will be able to provide
guidance.
3
Minimal versions supported to connect securely after the change:

Browser/OS

• Android 4.4.2 or newer

• Chrome 49 on Windows XP SP3 or newer

• Firefox 49 on Windows XP SP3 or newer

• IE 11 on Windows 8.1 or newer

• Edge 15 on Windows 10 or newer

• Safari 6 on iOS 6.0.1 or newer

Integration environments

• Java 8u161 or newer

4. Users’ Echo - e-mails sent to IMDS

Our company has some concerns about SCIP reporting require-
ments. Does entering data into the SCIP database reveal our
supply chain? And what do we need to do when we receive
legacy MDSs without SCIP information?
Thanks.

Dear IMDS User,

the answer to your first question is as follows:
On the SCIP dissemination page the supply chain is not revealed directly, as no company
names are exposed, not even the name of the reporting company. To respect other companies’
requirements for supply chain confidentiality, it is strongly recommended not to include any company
names (neither your own nor your customer’s) under the names and descriptions of Modules/MDSs as
those names might become visible in the SCIP dissemination portal.

Concerning your legacy data question:

Modules/MDSs released prior to IMDS Release 13.0 do not contain SCIP information like Article Cat-
egories, Material Categories, Production in EU, etc.
These MDSs are still valid and can be proposed or published.
Just like the regulatory information collected in the regulation wizard, SCIP information (or the lack
thereof) is not to be considered acceptance criteria for MDSs.
SCIP information in IMDS is not mandatory and must not be used as a reason for rejection.

In order to provide further guidance concerning SCIP, check out the FAQ in the category “SCIP (Sub-
stances of Concern in Products)”.
