A PALACE OR AN INN

A Hermit was once passing through the capital of a great empire .

He stood in front of the royal palace at sunset.

He took it for an inn.

So he spread his carpet on the green grass beside the gate.

He wanted to sleep there for the night.

The guard tried to turn him out, but he refused to go.

The king heard the noise and came to the spot.

"Don't you know, that it is my palace and not an inn?", said the king.

"May I ask you, your majesty!", said the hermit, "Who lived in this palace it was first built?",

"My grandfather", replied the king.

"And who lived here after him?" asked the hermit.

"My father", answered the kin.

"But who will live here after you?" asked the hermit for the third time.

"My son" was the king's answer.

Then the hermit said to the king,

"Your majesty, a place that change its residents so often is certainly an inn".

The king was greatly pleased with this reply and allowed the hermit to sleep there for the night.
