APPLIED MATHEMATICS PRACTICALS #1
AVERAGES

Question: Consider the marks of 5 Students in the class in the subjects Applied Mathematics, Economics,
Accountancy, Business Studies and English. Enter the marks in Excel Sheet. Calculate the average marks
obtained by any one student. Based on the data, calculate the following:

❖ Average marks of remaining students

❖ Average of the averages of the students

Solution:

Step 1: Enter the data of the marks on the spreadsheet (make sure it is a proper table with boarders).

Step 2: Position the active cell just below the marks of the leftmost student on the spreadsheet.

Step 3: Type in the formula =AVERAGE(C4:C8) in the cell C9. Press Enter from keyboard.

Step 4: Align the mouse pointer with the bottom-right corner of the cell C9 till the pointer assumes the
shape of +. Drag the mouse pointer rightward till cell G9. Leave the left mouse button.

Step 5: Click on the cell B11. Type in =AVERAGE(C9:G9). Press Enter from Keyboard. Type in Average of
Averages in the cell B10.
