TPE 6: Developing as a Professional Educator

Another key component of the California Standards for the Teaching

Profession (CSTP) is Standard Six on Developing as a Professional Educator. This

one area of the TPEs that I feel I have had a plethora of so far in my credentialing

journey. I am constantly learning about new pedagogies within my coursework

and working to adapt them into my classroom. After the completion of this

program, I hope to continue to remain in a student mindset throughout my career

as a teacher. I seek to be the kind of teacher who is reflective and constantly

seeking to acquire knowledge. I never want to reach a point where I feel I know

everything. In order for my students to feel a joy for learning and self-

improvement, I hope they can see that modeled within me first. I seek to lead by

example for my students and never forget the mindset of a student. The

professional development activities that I have participated in so far include post-

conference reflection activities with my University Supervisor where I can discuss

improvements in my teaching (See Artifact #2) as well a professional development

(PD) day provided by my district (See Artifact #1). For the Math PD, I was able to

learn about Vertical Non-permanent Surfaces and the benefits of them within the
classroom. I now have been implementing them within my classroom and I think it

is a great way to meet my students where they are at developmentally. My

student’s love peer collaboration and this group activity is a great structured way

to facilitate that within our learning experiences. I plan to continue to use this

activity in my classroom in the future and I hope to stay open to learning from PDs

provided by my district in the future as well. Lastly, by staying up on the latest

pedagogies and practices promoted by groups like CTC and in magazines like

California Educator, I can continue to be a knowledgeable and relevant teacher

that meets my students unique and everchanging needs in the future. The EQUITY

Framework that this most aligns with is Transformative Praxis and Youth-

Centered Pedagogies. By staying up-to-date with the latest youth-centered

pedagogies throughout my career, I can continue to implement relevant teaching

practices that evolve with the times and allow for my student’s to experience

transformative learning through Transformative Praxis that turns them into future

gamechangers In the world.
