This poem explores the trope of friends to lovers and expresses a preference for that type of romantic development. It describes the hidden feelings of attraction between friends, the urge to confess those feelings but reluctance to risk losing the friendship. It also touches on the thrill of sudden realization of love for a friend after bottling up emotions for a long time, and the bittersweet nature of loving someone who may not feel the same way or end the friendship for a relationship. The poem concludes by considering the potential consequences of acting or not acting on romantic feelings for a friend and whether the friendship could be ruined or lasting love found by taking the risk to pursue more.

The slow burn must be above? But friends to lovers is what I’d love to have. The smirks after the stolen gaze, The hidden feelings of lavender haze. The urge of wanting you, The urge to finally confess how my feelings are true. But end up giving up, ‘coz I rather be labeled as hopeless romantic, As I don’t have the guts, To lose this friendship we had.
I love the thrill of the sudden outburst,
The thrill of angry confession that it hurts. That it bleeds you to see him with another girl, As if you hadn’t gone think thousand times to stop these feelings of swirl. I want to feel that kind of love, The desperate yet selfless one. Despite it stings like a bee, At least it was sweet like its honey.
As when the feelings got exposed,
Expressed because of the sudden outburst. Looking eye to eye, Lost. Yet, Love. Lost in both eyes, As you both keep on giving signs. Signs of being in love. Both of you held hands, One’s brave enough to end the friendship for love, One’s not, as afraid to end up ruining the friendship you had.
What could be the consequences?
Consequences of this kind of love so endearing to my likings. One argues of taking the risk, One wanted not to, as afraid to lose her after the boat sinks. I mean both can only be ruined, If both cannot choose what path should be taken. To take risk in order to have love, Or just keep the friendship that thought will last.
