Professional Philosophy Statement
Nursing wasn’t always my first choice, nor was it something that my family envisioned
for me. My dad owns a family construction business that has been operating for 56 years and
was expected to be passed to me. I began working for him since the age of 14 and excelled in
the field. Around this time, my mom began to have unexplained symptoms of fatigue and
generalized weakness. Due to this, it took a toll on our family . Romans 12: 6-8 says, “ Having
gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in
proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his
teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in
generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy,

with cheerfulness”. Through my mother being sick, lead to finding my true gift. A gift
that gave me purpose as the scripture says and a career that allowed me to perform acts
I grew up in a religious household. One that puts love before all acts. As I began to
succeed in the field of construction, I felt a sense of incompleteness. When I arrived home, that
completeness was fulfilled by taking care of my mom. Providing care to her fulfilled the quality
of love that was ingrained in me as a child. At 18 years old I was hospitalized with
Mononucleosis (mono), and for the first time I felt the joy of having nurses take care of me and
making me feel safe, the same way I had been trying to do with my mom.
Servings others can be taught, but for some its engrained within them. The core values
that guide my work, fulfill a deep rooted happiness in me to serve others mercifully and humbly
like I did to my mom. My goal is to provide the type of care that makes my patients feel safe,
secure, and truly cared for. This leads me to my short term goal: to provide immediate care to
patients as an RN. My long term goal is to teach registered nurses and nursing assistants to
become excellent healthcare workers. Through Jesus we have the scriptures to show us love
