Lab Manual for First Segment

Lab I: Installation of Window Server 2008R2 by Oracle VM VirtualBox

Window Server 2008 R2 is a server operating system developed by Microsoft, which
builds on the enhancements built into Window Server 2008. The operating system (OS), which is
highly integrated with the client edition of Window 7, offers improvements in scalability and
availability, as well as power consumption.

Step 1: Install Oracle VM Virtual Box on your computer and open Oracle VM Virtual Box on
the desktop. Then, install Window Server 2008R2 on the Virtual Box by using the following
steps:
Lab II: Domain Controller/Active Directory Domain Services
The Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) role installs Active
Directory and turns a Windows Server 2008 computer into a domain controller.
The main purpose of AD DS is to provide authentication and authorization to users
and computers in a Windows domain environment. Active directory stores
information in a centralized database, giving administrators a tool that enables
them to apply user and computer policies, install software and apply patches and
updates to client computers in the domain.

For Server Computer

Step 1: Open the Window Server 2008R2 on your VM Virtual Box. Then, go to
Start>Administrative Tools>Server Manager
dcpromo
For Client Computer
Step 2: Install Window 7 on the Oracle VM VirtualBox and Open Window 7.
Then, give the computer name of it-PC and domain name of youth.com in System
Properties of your computer.
Step 3: Create Domain User on the Server Computer
Fill in the New Object – User box as follows:
Step 4: Assign Logon User Account on the Server Computer
Lab III: DHCP Server (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)

DHCP is a protocol used to provide quick, automatic, and central management for the
distribution of IP addresses within a network. DHCP is also used to configure the proper subnet
mask, default gateway, and DNS server infromation on the device.

For Server Computer

Step 1: Select DHCP Server in the Server Roles

For Client Computer
Step 2: Change LAN adaptor setting and select Obtain IP address automatically
Then check the connection between the server and client.

Step 3: To Assign Reservation, see the Physical Address (MAC Address) of client and you put
this Physical Address into Server New Reservation Page.
Lab 4: DNS Server (Domain Name System)
A DNS server is a computer server that contains a database of public IP address and their
associated hostname, and in most cases, serves to resolve, or translate, those common names to
IP addresses as requested.
DNS servers run special software and communicate with each other using special
protocols. In most easy to understand terms: a DNS server on the internet is the device that
translates that www.lifewire.com you type in your brower to the 151.101.129.121 IP address that
it really is.

For Server Computer

Step 1: To Assign Forward Loopup Zones and Rerverse Loopup Zones, do the following steps.
Forward Loopup Zone is to resolve the IP addreses by Fully Qualified Domain Names (FQDNs)
and reverse loopup zone is resolve FQDNs by IP addresses.
For Client Computer
Step 2: To test DNS server, go to client and enter nslookup command in command
window.

Lab 5: Gateway (LAN Routing)

A gateway is a network node that connects two networks using different protocol
together. While a bridge is used to join two similar types of networks, a gateway is used to join
two dissimilar networks.

Step 1: Select Network Policy and Accesss Services into Server Roles
Then, check the connection between the server and client.
Lab 6: Web Server

Web servers often come as part of a larger package of Internet-and intranet-related

programs for seerving email, downloading requests for File Transfer Protocol (FTP) files, and
building and publishing Web pages. Consideration in choosing a Web server includes how well
it works with the operating system and other servers, its ability to handle server-side
programming, security characteristics, and the particular publlishing, search engine and site
building tools that come with it.

For Server Computer

Step 1: To Create the Web Program, Open notepad and type “Welcome to myanmar” and Save
(for example).
Step 2: Create Web Site
For Client Computer
Step 3: Open Internet Explorer into Window 7 and type IP address or domain name. You can see
Web Program.
Lab 7: FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is the commonly used protocol for exchanged files over the
Internet. FTP uses the Internet’s TCP/IP protocols to enable data transfer. FTP uses a client-
server architecture, often secured with SSL/TLS. FTP promotes sharing of files via rremote
computers with reliable and efficient data transfer.

For Server Computer

Step 1: Select Role>Role Services>Add role Servies

In the Content Directory, fill the content directory that you want to share to clients.
Then, the client can access to FTP server by typing ftp://192.168.1.1/ in the URL of the
browser.

Lab 8: ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)

Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), allow a local network (LAN) of Windows computers
to share a single internet connection. Microsoft developed ICS as part of Windows 98 Second
Edition. The feature has been included as part of all subsequent Windows releases. It is not
available as a separately installable program.

For Server Computer

Step 1: You must need real internet

For Client Computer
Step 2: You put this IP address(192.168.137.1) into Default gateway of Window 7
and you can get the internet connection.

Then, you can access the Internet in your client.

Lab 9: NAT (Network Address Translation)
NAT is short for Network Address Translation. NAT is an Internet standard tha enables a
local-area network(LAN) to use one set of IP addresses for Internal traffic and a second set of
addresses for external traffic. A NAT box located where the LAN meets the Internet makes all
necessary IP address translations.

For Server Computer

Step 1: go to Start>Administrative Tools>Routing and Remote Access and you need the real
internet connectin to test NAT.
For Client Computer

Step 2: You must put Server IP address into Default gateway of Client and you can access the
internet in your client.
