The United Kingdom is an ethnically diverse society. There are many factors that may be
contributing to the changing ethnic composition of England, such as differing patterns of ageing,
fertility, mortality, and migration. Changes may also be caused by differences in the way individuals
chose to self-identify between censuses.
“British Asian”
British Asian is a widely used term to describe British persons of Asian descent. It is the
fastest growing minority. The most significant wave of Asian immigration to England came right
after the Second World War. Since then, they have been subjected to forms of discrimination and
racism. After seeing movements of different ethnic groups young British Asian activists began a
number of anti-racist movements in the 1970s and 1980s.
Nowadays "Asian British" create 9.6% (5.4 million) of inhabitants of England.
“British White”
British White is the largest ethnic group in England and creates 81.7% (48.7 million) of inhabitants
of England.
