Easter is an annual religious holiday of spring with different
meanings, found in Judaism and Christianity. The Passover (Jewish Easter) is a religious holiday celebrated by the Jews in memory of their deliverance from Egyptian slavery and their departure from Egypt (Exodus), under the leadership of Moses. Pagans celebrate the resurrection of nature and the beginning of a new cycle of nature, while Christians celebrate the resurrection of the Lord after His sacrifice for the good of men. Regardless of religion, all people celebrate something in early spring. As the Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary, He also became the son of the human race and made the supreme sacrifice. Jesus sacrificed Himself to atone for the ancestral sin of men. The whole feast begins with Flower Sunday, when Jesus enters Jerusalem, being received with cheers and palm/olive branches by the faithful. The feast of the Passover was instituted by the Savior at the Last Supper. Romanian customs and traditions are represented by the sacrifice of the Passover lamb which represents the Savior's sacrifice as well as nourishment for men which nowadays includes sponge cake; and egg painting, which is a traditional world custom for the whole of Christianity.
