Act IV: Romeo & Juliet Reading Guide Questions

1. SCENE I: What is your opinion of Paris in this scene? Is he flirty? Is he forceful towards Juliet? Is
he caring? Support your answer with a quote from the play. Make sure to cite your quote!

he talks like he knows already that she loves him and kind of forcing his love on her. he says
"don't deny to him you love me" on page 211.

2. SCENE I: What does Friar Lawrence suggest to Juliet? Describe his plan in detail. (2-POINTS)

he thinks that she should drink a mixture of something to make her sleep fort 42 hours and to
stop the wedding. he says "When you're in bed, take this vial, mix its contents with liquor, and
drink"

3. SCENE II: Explain the change Lord Capulet made in the wedding and how it will affect Juliet
and Friar Laurence’s plan with the potion. (2-POINT)
lord Capulet decided to change the wedding day to a day earlier so they couldn't get the plan to
Romeo. he says "Send for the Count. Go tell him about this. I'll make his wedding happen
tomorrow morning."

4. SCENE III: What are the fears Juliet expresses before she takes the potion? Include at least
three of her fears. (3-POINTS)
Juliet is scared that it is actually poison or she will wake up before Romeo find her which would
leaver her in a tomb with her rotting cousin. she thinks this will make her go crazy. she says "What
if the Friar mixed the potion to kill me?" and "Will I die of suffocation before Romeo comes? Or if I
live, I'll be surrounded by death and darkness."

5. SCENE IV: In line 25 Capulet gives the Nurse instructions. What are the instructions? (2-POINTS)
he wasn't her to wake up Juliet and get her ready for the wedding. it says "Go wake Juliet. Go and
get her dressed. I'll go and chat with Paris. Hey, hurry up, hurry up!"
6. What do you predict will happen in the next scene? Write at least 3 sentences. (3-POINTS)
i think that in the next few scenes we will see Romeo sneak into Verona and see Juliet in her
tomb. he will see her dead and drink his poison he bought from Apothecary and kill himself.
when Romeo kills himself Juliet will wake up, see him dead, and then she will kill herself.
