WVA
The World Veterinary Association (WVA),
headquartered in Copenhagen, is a non-governmental
international organization. The latter are professional
and independent of governments. BVA is one of the
oldest international associations. In April 1863,
Professor R. Hemji from the Veterinary College of
Edinburgh proposed to organize a meeting of
professors of veterinary schools and veterinary doctors
from European countries to study and establish
uniform rules for combating epizootics.
Mission

The purpose of world veterinary associations is the


development of research in relevant fields, active exchange
of information and materials between specialists and
organizations, holding meetings and conferences.
WVA Mission To provide global leadership for the
veterinary profession and promote animal health and
welfare as well as public health through advocacy,
education and partnership.
Vision

The World Veterinary Association is


recognized and respected as an
authoritative and influential voice of
world veterinary medicine.
History
The first International Congress in the history of veterinary medicine
took place on 14-18 June 1863 at Gamburzi. At this congress, decisions
were made about the periodic holding of international events. As a result
of this, the Permanent Committee of the All-World Veterinary Congresses
was created, which later became known as the All-World Veterinary
Association.

At a meeting of the Standing Committee of representatives of the


participating countries in 1962, the World Veterinary Association (VVA)
was founded, the Constitution and Rules of the World Veterinary
Association were adopted. The Constitution contains Chapter VIII of 32
articles, and the Rules include 54 paragraphs. The Constitution and Rules
define the main meta and mission of the VVA, organizational structure,
membership of the region and other associations of veterinary doctors,
the procedure for paying membership fees, holding international
veterinary congresses and other aspects activities of the VVA. The
structure of the VBA is shown in Figure 1.
The World Veterinary Association currently unites over 160 thousand.
