Kids' Roller-Coaster Science Project

Children will build a functional marble roller coaster to learn and demonstrate Newton's laws of motion. They will research roller coasters, design and build their own coaster by applying recycled materials, and test it by changing elements like loops and heights. Finally, the children will present their roller coaster to classmates, explaining how it works and applying relevant scientific concepts and vocabulary. The project aims to teach Newton's motion laws in a hands-on way through an engaging activity.

Objective:

Curious Scientist Children will learn and apply Newton’s

THREE-MONTHLY Motion Laws in their basic level to make
EVALUATION a functional marble roller-coaster and
explain how these laws are
Project demonstrated in the journey of the
marble through the track.
directions
Step 1
Investigate Newton's Motion Laws. You
could read "Team Work" again in your
awesome reader. Look for videos online
or information on websites over science
for kids.

Step 2
Research for roller-coaster models! There
are plenty of diagrams, videos and books
about them online, even with instructions
to build them. Don't forget that the design
should support a marble safely through
the whole trajectory, from beginning to
end, as if it were a real wagon.

Step 3

Design your personal roller-coaster!

Gather your materials (remember to
recycle as much as possible) and invite
your dad, mom, brother, sister, etc., to
build it with you. Have fun together.
Finally, decorate and test it. Correct any
design mistake, try it and experiment
what happens when you change loops or
heights.

STEP 4. PRESENTATION:
Take a photograph of your Roller-Coaster model and upload it to Nemax platform. You will have
to show your work LIVE during a class session and will explain how and why it works to your
friends. Remember to use the appropriate vocabulary and concepts for this exposition. You
must be prepared on Friday January 29th.
You are just one step to take part of a Science Fair next year, enjoy science and play with it.
