MISTAKE 1
NOT HAVING A GOAL
“People with goals succeed because they
know where they’re going.”
Earl Nightingale

Do you have a target you are trying to hit?

You know, saying, “I want to do well in

school” is good. However, when it is said
without knowing exactly what “doing well”
means to you, it becomes pointless.

Avoid losing sight of why you are going to

the University, and mistaking freedom as
license to do any damn thing you want, but
have never been allowed to do.

So, setting goals and academic targets every

semester gives you a target that you must
check your performance against, during the
semester.

You must keep your eyes on your target in

order to make sure you hit them!

Thus, to be successful on your training

ground(University), you have to internalize
the purpose of its entirety and look for
strategic ways to not just merely “survive”
but to excel.
MISTAKE 2
STUDYING TO REMEMBER
INSTEAD OF STUDYING TO
UNDERSTAND!
Thinking that the University is going to be
just as easy as high school.
At first it seems that way, but it’s not.

Memorizing can work well in some classes,

especially in elementary and middle school,
but it often backfires in more advanced
classes.

Instead of just memorizing material for a

test, connect it to other things you have
learned, relate information and develop a
deeper understanding of the material.

One of the biggest mistakes students make is

that they will often sit down and start
“studying” without really knowing what
their priorities are, what they need to focus
on in that study session, or which study
strategies they are going to use to master the
material

If you do not know how to study effectively

so the information sticks in their brain,
chances are good that you will spend a lot of
time spinning wheels (or getting distracted),
and end up going into the exam far less
prepared than they could have been.
MISTAKE 3
MISSING CLASSES
Skipping class is "like a gateway drug”

You can skip class once without too many

ramifications.

Then all of a sudden, the next thing you

know, you find yourself skipping it all the
time.

It's really impossible to do well if you're not

attending class."

Imagine skipping class on a day when a

professor introduces a new topic, announces
a quiz during the next class or assigns
groups for a project due the following week.

It's easy to fall behind. And missing more

than a certain number of classes can mean
an automatic fail for some courses.

Show up to class unless you have a good

reason for missing it like your sick, there
was a death in the family or a family
member is in the hospital.

No one is going to let you know when you

are failing.

Don’t skip classes!

MISTAKE 4
NOT STARTING EARLY
Have you ever left doing an assignment
until the last minute?

When you leave your work until the last

minute you don’t have much time to do a lot
of reading.

So you throw together a few ideas.

The end result is like an undercooked egusi.

The ideas are half-baked.

You may get 3 pages of homework today and

by tomorrow you could have 9 more.

Do your assignments as soon as possible to

avoid getting overwhelmed.

If you wait until the end of the week, you’ll

be buried under homework all weekend.

If you have an hour between classes, that’s a

great time to accomplish some work.

Instead of pulling out your phone and

browsing social media – do your homework.

Do it as soon as possible and you will have

more free time later.
MISTAKE 5
NOT ASKING FOR HELP

"The reason why you are at the university or

college that you're attending is because you
want to learn something," Villar says. "It's
OK to not know everything. You're not
expected to."

Get guidance from people who have a firm

grasp on the subject, maybe all you need is
to hear it explained in a different way.

It’s best to get help early, so you don’t fall

behind in a class.

It is always easier to ask for help than it is to

be playing catch up for the rest of a
semester.

If something doesn’t make sense, ask for

clarification!

University is expensive and asking questions

can save you money.

You are paying for it – it’s not cheap and it’s

up to you to make the most out of it.
HOW DO YOU MOVE FROM A D-GRADE
STUDENT TO AN A-GRADE STUDENT.

Dear Student!

I'm glad you're reading this now.

There is a pain that comes with failing

exams.

Two years ago, I read a sad story of a young

Man who committed suicide after failing the
GCE.

He felt so frustrated after his friends passed

their final year exams to move to the next
academic year while he has to repeat that
class again.

I have since then read and heard different

sad incidents about Students who have done
harm to themselves after failing an exam.

This tells us just one thing.

Passing an exam is something every

Students holds seriously and your academic
results can impact on you.

Most students lost confidence in themselves

and the names calling that comes from
parents and friends after failing an exam.

What about being called dull?

It's a painful experience and kills your self-
esteem no matter how we try to pretend
about it.

From my experience as a best graduating

student, I can confidently tell you this for
free.

The Average student fails exams not because

they have a low IQ( dull) but because they
pay attention to what if takes to become an
outstanding student.

A student with a high IQ who lacks the

coordination and cooperation it takes to
become an outstanding student can still
struggle.

I have written in this guide over 21 Practical

Tips you can use to move from a D-grade
student to an A-grade student.

These Strategies will help you succeed across

every level of your academic ladder.

Maybe you are doing well already as a

student but you desire to become more.

The answers and how to achieve your dreams
