    This amendment to IS 14543: 2016 allows for a blue tint in plastic containers that are 5 liters or larger, if made of polycarbonate or polyethylene terephthalate plastics. The blue tint must come from pigments on the approved list in IS 9833 and cannot result in an overall migration of color from the container of more than 60 mg/liter as specified in IS 9845. This updates the packaging specifications for packaged drinking water in India.

    TO
    IS 14543 : 2016 PACKAGED DRINKING WATER (OTHER
    THAN PACKAGED NATURAL MINERAL WATER) —
    SPECIFICATION
    (Second Revision)

    (Page 2, clause 6) — Insert the following at the end of the clause:

    ‘Blue tint as per list of pigments and colorants permitted in IS 9833 may be
    allowed in plastic container of 5 litre and above made of Polycarbonate and
    Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) used for packaged drinking water, provided
    the overall migration of pigment or colour used in container shall not be more
    than 60 mg/litre as per IS 9845.’
