Masters Degrees (Coursework) prepare students to apply


advanced knowledge for professional practice, scholarship and
further learning corresponding to AQF level 9 qualifications.

This program aims to develop internationally focused graduates


who possess a combination of knowledge and research skills
applicable to the industry. The degree starts with a commerce
core semester that includes a discipline-specific unit from your
chosen major. The commerce core is designed to enhance your
skills in critical thinking and creativity, and build awareness
through collaboration with peers from diverse business
disciplines. It will provide you will a foundation in business project
management, business analytics, and transformative technologies
that impact business.
Afterwards, you’ll commence your chosen discipline major to
complete your degree structure. The majors in this course are
designed to allow specialisation in various disciplines in
Commerce and are suitable for those who wish to extend their
existing knowledge of a discipline as well as those with
qualifications in other fields wishing to enter a new discipline.
Each of the discipline streams are delivered high quality, industry
connected experiences the develop your Mastery in the
discipline. In your final year, you’ll undertake your Commerce
Capstone experience to enhance your practical skills and
international business knowledge.

Professional recognition

Finance Major (MCom) is seeking to be accepted into the CFA


Institute University Recognition Program. Recognised status is
granted to institutions whose degree program(s) incorporate at
least 70% of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge
(CBOK). This provides students with a solid grounding in the
CBOK and positions them well to sit for the exams which are part
of the CFA program; the leading global qualification for
investment professionals.

Entry and completion details

Applicants for a Master Degree (Coursework) are required to


meet University academic and English language entry standards;
details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au
(http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au). Subject to the duration of the
course applicants usually require a Bachelor Degree or
equivalent (and may require relevant work experience), Bachelor
Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma. Any
specific course entry and completion requirements must also be
met.

Specifically, applicants require a bachelor degree or an


equivalent qualification in any discipline from a recognised
tertiary institution. Overseas applicants require a qualification that
is recognised by tertiary admissions authorities in Australia and
considered equivalent to the qualifications listed for entry to this
course.

The Master of Commerce has 1.5 and 2-year course lengths


depending on your prior qualifications. Students that have
completed a Bachelor degree in a relevant field can progress
directly into the discipline stream, where they will commence
advanced discipline studies, before progressing to Mastery units
in the discipline. Students can however choose to study a longer
course length if they desire.

For those students that have completed a Bachelor degree in a


relevant field and have 5 years of documented work experience
in a related role, you can complete a Discipline Master degree in
one year.

Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an


individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required
to complete the course and may be granted for formal education
qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of
study and informal learning through work experiences. Further

Applicants with a recognised undergraduate degree may be


eligible for a maximum of 100 credits CRL

Intermediate awards

A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an


approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that
award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees
apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course:

GD-COMM Graduate Diploma in Commerce

This fee paying course is two years full-time or equivalent part-


time study. All streams in the course are available to international
students studying in Australia on a study visa.

Learning outcomes

Master Degrees (Coursework) contain a series of units in a


specialised area of study which may include compulsory (core),
optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They
may also contain a range of majors/streams for students to
choose from.

1. Apply discipline knowledge to solve complex business


problems and achieve innovative business solutions that are
valued by industry, government, and community.

2. Analyse business problems in ways that demonstrate critical


thinking to achieve responsible management decisions that
consider international contexts, and diverse stakeholders
including local First Peoples.

3. Demonstrate digital and cultural competency expected in


business management contexts, effectively communicating in
ways that professional.

4. Demonstrate the professional skills, knowledge and attributes


including ethical perspectives needed for a professional career
in business.
