1 BRIEF TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF OPERATOR

I/F UNIT
The Operator I/F unit is a part of Controller work position (CWP) of Voice Communication &
Control System (VCCS) for use in ATC. The Operator I/F unit is an interface between
Headset & Controller work position (CWP). The Headset is connected to Operator I/F unit
which in turn is connected to RT MUX UNIT. The unit supports volume control potentiometer
for the Left Ear-piece.

Specifications Value

Power Requirement +/-12 V

Consumption 1.8 W

2 BRIEF PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION OF OPERATOR

I/F UNIT
This section provides the functional block diagram of the OPERATOR I/F Unit and describes
the theory of operation of these units.

2.1 Functional Block Diagram

2.2 Principles of Operation of OPERATOR I/F Unit
The principles of operation is explained with respect to Figure 2-1: Functional Block
Diagram of OPERATOR I/F Unit. This unit is connected with RT MUX unit and headset. It
takes two unbalanced audio signals and amplifies them to drive the speakers of the headset.
It also takes microphone input from the headset and preamplifier the signal and feeds it into
the RT MUX UNIT. There is a volume Potentiometer to control the speaker volume.

3 DETAILED CIRCUIT THEORY OF OPERATOR I/F UNIT

The operator interface card is designed to amplifier the microphone signal. The amplified
microphone signal is transmitted by CWP on the selected channel. The audio signal
received on selected Radio channel & Intercom is passed to Operator I/F unit. The Operator
I/F unit supports buffer amplifier for the received audio and passes on to respective Ear-
piece of Headset. The unit supports volume control potentiometer for the Left Ear-piece.

3.1 Detailed Circuit Theory of Sub-assemblies
This section explains the detailed circuit theory about the various sub-assemblies of the
OPERATOR I/F unit:

3.1.1 Operator I/F Card (AEM 79046-02)

The operator interface card is designed to amplifier 3 channel unbalanced audio signal. Two-
channel are used for the speakers and 3rd channel is used as a mic preamplifier.
The amplification is mainly done by is single dual low noise operational amplifier.
