Lami’s Theorem Apparatus.

Aim : To verify Lami’s Theorem.

Apparatus :

Laminated Assembly, Weight Set, Frictionless Pulley – 2 Nos., Cotton Rope, Mirror.

Weight Set :

100 gms x 5 Nos. – 2 Set.

50 gms x 5 Nos. – 2 Set. + 1 set extra.

25 gms x 5 Nos. – 2 Set.

Procedure to perform the Experiment.

01. Fix 2 Pulleys at the top end of the Board at desired distance properly.

02. Fix a Drawing Paper on the Board with cello tape.

03. Now take Rope of suitable length and tie a knot for fixing the Weight Hanger.

04. Attach the weight hanger to both ends with minimum weight in it.

05. Attach another rope at the center of the string passing over the pulleys.

06. Now attaché the weight hanger to the center rope.

07. Go on adding the weights to make the system in equilibrium condition.

08. With help Mirror Image draw points coinciding the lines of the rope and mirror.

09. Mark a point where the knot resting by pressing with the hand.

10. Remove the paper from the board.

11. Now note down the values of the weights in hanger for all the 3 hanger as ‘P’, ‘Q’

& ‘R’.

Observation Table :

Sr. P Q R   
No.
Gms. Gms. Gms. Deg Deg Deg

The above values noted on the paper is to be taken for graphical analysis.

Follow the following procedure for drawing the free body diagram.

01. On the paper removed from the board, Draw a straight lines where the points are

Marked, passing from center. All the 3 lines will meet at center.

02. Measure the Angle in between them. ( 3 Angles to be measured)

03. Verify the relation

“P/Sin  = Q/Sin  = R / Sin ”

Repeat the above procedure for different weights.
