Reggae on Cajon (pt.2)

Basic Counting
First, I would like to show you a basic counting of a 16th note groove. It
consists in 16 notes in a bar of 4/4, and we can count like this:

The Steppers

Exercise 1

To start building this groove we are going to play the bass in all the 8th
notes of the bar. Like the other grooves, the One Drop and The Rockers, In
this groove we are going to apply the swing feel (see video).

Exercise 2

Now we add the snare accents on beats 2 and 4 of the bar

Now we start to add some snare variations, I will give 2 examples for you to
start.

Snare Variation 2

Now you add a snare accent on beat 3-e of the bar.

And that’s it, this was the Steppers groove.

This is how I adapted these Reggae groove from the drum set to the Cajon.
Now I hope you use it as a starting point to add more variations and create
your own reggae grooves. I highly recommend you to start practicing this
groove with the Free mp3 that comes with the Lesson. Then, I suggest you
to choose cool Reggae music to apply the groove.

Have fun!
