Effective width of slab
bef ( for solid slab spanning in one direction ) =  x a (1-a/lo) + b1
bef ( for solid slab cantilever ) = 1.2 a+ b1
lo (effective span) = 3.20 m
a ( distance of c.g. of conc. load from nearer support )
b1 ( breadth of concentration area of the load i.e. the dimension
of tyre over road surface in the direction at right angle to span
plus twice the thickness of wearing coat )
 ( a constant having the values depending upon ratio b/lo ) = 2.6
