BIBLE STORY A Forgiven Friend
If your mother finds out that you have told a
lie, how do you feel? (Ask some children to
share.)
If you tell your mother you are sorry for
telling a lie, what does she do?
Do you feel happy afterwards?
‘Our story today is about a man who did bad
things. What did he do when he met Jesus?
When the Lord Jesus was here on earth, He
had many friends. They liked to listen to His
teaching about God in heaven. They also invited
Him to their homes to give Him something to eat.
(Show Preschool 4-5-1.) Who were these two
sisters who were friends of the Lord?
One day Jesus found a new. friend named
Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus was a rich man who lived
in a beautiful house. How did he meet the Lord?
‘This is how it happened.
Jesus was always going from town to town.
He was always teaching the people about God.
One day He came to the town where Zacchaeus
lived.
‘When Zacchaeus heard the news that the
Lord Jesus had come to their town, he decided to
{go to see Him, “I'd like to see Jesus,” he said to
himself. “He teaches about God and does
wonderful miracles. I'd like to know more about
God.”
Zacchaeus hurried to where the crowd was +
around Jesus. But when he got there, he couldn't
get near Jesus because there were so many
35ON
people, And he couldn't see over their heads
because he was short.
He wanted so much to see Jesus, What could
hhe do? Then down the road he saw a tree:
Suddenly he had an idea! The tree was right
Where Jesus and the crowd would pass, If he
climbed the tee, he would be able to see. But he
‘must hurry,
Zacchaeus ran down the road until he came
to the tree. (Show Preschool 4-7-1 tied 10 tree
‘Make Zacchaeus climb the tree.) Quickly he
climbed up-up-up the tree. He sat on a large
branch and waited for the crowd and the Lord
Jesus to pass by.
The crowd came closer and closer.
Zacchaeus kept looking and looking. Then he
saw the Lord Jesus—right in the middle of the
crowd. He listened hard to see if he could hear
‘what Jesus was saying
‘Soon the Lord Jesus was right under the tree.
‘Then suddenly He stopped and looked up. He
‘was looking rightat Zacchaeus, “Zacchacus,” He
said, “come down from the tree. I will stay in
‘your house today.”
“The people were surprised. They complained,
“2acchaeus did many bad things. Jesus should
fot goto his house.”
But the Lord did not listen to the people. He
kept looking at Zacchaeus. Oh, how happy
Zacchaeus was. The Lord Jesus wanted 10 goto
his house! (Make Zacchaeus go down from the
tree.) Very quickly he got down from the tree.
Tm very happy to welcome You in my house,
‘Lord Jesus,” he sai.
Later on when they were eating atthe able,
Zacchaeus stood up. He wanted to say
something t0 the Lord in front of the other
people who were there. “Lord Jesus,” he sai, "I
fm going to give half of all my money to poor
people. And if I have taken any money from
people, Iwill return i.”
‘The Lord was glad to hear this promise from

BIBLE STORY A Thankful Friend
‘When your father or mother does something
for you, how do you show that you are thankful
to them? (Have some children share.)
In our story today, Jesus did something for
someone. Listen and find out what this person
did to show that she was thankful to Jesus.
Every week, the Lord Jesus and His disciples
went to church, just as we do. He taught the
people about God.
‘One day after the service at church was
finished, the Lord and His friends went to the
home of Peter. They were glad they could rest
and have dinner together there.
But when they arrived at the house, they
heard that the grandmother was sick with a
fever. When the Lord Jesus heard this, what do
you think He did? Yes, right away He went to the
room where the grandmother was lying in bed.
He could see that she was very hot because of
the fever.
‘The Lord Jesus went over to the bed. He took
the hand of the grandmother. (Show picture4-8-1.) Then He told her, “Get up.” Immediately
the grandmother felt better. She sat up in bed.
Then she stood up. She was well! The fever was
gone! She was completely well. How thankful
she was to the Lord for healing her. ‘
The Lord Jesus and His friends went back
into the living room. But where do you think the
grandmother went? Yes, she went to the kitchen.
She knew that the Lord Jesus and His friends
were hungry. She wanted to prepare something
for them to eat. How glad she was to be able to
show her love to the Lord by doing something
for Him.
THINKING TOGETHER :
We, too, can show our love to Jesus by
helping others. In what ways can we help others?
(Have the children share their answers and have
them dramatize ways they can help others.)
MEMORY VERSE 1 Jobn 4:19
Why do we want to show our love for the

Tris because He loves us so much. (Read 1
