AFCON 2023 QUALIFIERS: RUTHLESS SUPER EAGLES BEAT SAO TOME 10 – 0

The Super Eagles were ruthless in their second fixture of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying
series as they thrashed Sao Tome 10 – 0 to give Nigeria their biggest win in history. The 10-0 thrashing of
São Tomé and Príncipe became Nigeria’s biggest win since the nation beat neighbours Benin Republic
10-1 in 1959.

It was a total domination by the Nigerian side, Napoli forward Victor Osimhen scored four goals, and
Lorient striker Terem Moffi grabbed a brace while Leicester City’s Ademola Lookman, Stoke City
midfielder Etebo Oghenekaro, Nantes winger Moses Simon and Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis
scored a goal each to complete the decimation.

Napoli striker Osimhen was the man of the afternoon with his four goals and two assists. He took his
international goals tally up to 14 to become the fastest player to that number since Nigeria’s leading
goalscorer, the late great Rashidi Yekini.

The Super Eagles have now garnered six points from two games in the qualifiers to top Group A. Burkina
Faso, Algeria, Mali, Morocco and reigning African champion Senegal have also won two out of two
games. Morocco beat Liberia 2-0 later on Monday with goals by Faycal Fajr and Youssef En-Nesyri in the
space of two minutes early in the second half in Casablanca.
