About Sputnik is basically a water
rocket propulsion event. It is an
event of robotics which involves
designing and fabrication of a
rocket whose fuel for flight is
obtained by the use of water that is
expelled at large air pressure. It is
an application of Newton's third law
of motion. In the event the rocket
will be tested a couple of aspects
such as its flight, range, time of
flight, accuracy of launching
mechanism.

SPUTNIK
RULES (Read carefully):
● Maximum team size allowed is 5.
● Participants can form teams from different branches.
● No two teams must have any common member.
● No equipments will be provided from the organizers.
● If the team does not reach the venue within the stipulated
time, the team will be disqualified
● The rocket and its components must be handmade.
No readymade rocket is allowed.
● The rocket body should be made only with plastic bottles of aerated soft
drinks with a maximum capacity of 2.5 L and should be free of any
fabrication failures or dents caused by heat exposure. More than one
bottle can be used but the total volume must not exceed 2.5L
● The team must have their launcher. The launcher can be made
with PVC pipes and the design of the launcher should be made in
such a manner that you can change the launching angle as
required.
● The water rocket must use only compressed atmospheric air as its
source of energy. All teams must bring their cycle pumps, buckets
and mugs. Water to be filled in the rockets will be provided.
● At most two trials will be given to each team
● Use of electronic components and chemical explosives are banned.
● The point where the rocket hits the ground first will be taken as
the point of landing and measurements will be taken considering
this point
● Teams are advised to get more than one water rocket, in case of any
damage to one. But the water rockets must be identical.
● The participants are allowed to use variations (i.e. cardboard fins
and rocket cones) of their water rockets in different rounds.
However, only one design must be maintained throughout a
single round.

● The team will be disqualified/given another chance to remodel

if the model is found to be dangerous in any way. The decision
of the organizers is final and binding..
Process:
● ROUND I

1. Range test:
● Teams will be given at most 2 launches. Points will be given
accordingly where the rocket lands.
2. Accuracy test:
● Teams will be given two launches. Target will be placed at
some distance from the Launchpad. Target contains
concentric circles of radii 2m, 4m and 6m. If the rocket
lands at the center , team gets 100 points, second ring 75
points, and outer ring 50 points. If otherwise, no points are
awarded.
● ROUND II

1.Battle of rockets:
● Qualified teams will battle against each other for their
position in top three. The targets will be made of paper boxes.
The teams will try to destroy their opponents’ targets in 5
attempts. Points will be given on the amount of destruction of
opponent’s castle
